David,
Several of us are going to be at PIR on Saturday. Some will be racing. Parade laps are planned for lunch time. The event is also tied into Make-A Wish. Come on out from ~10:00 to 2:00 and say "hi". E-mail me if you need directions. http://www.race-asra.org/santadash.html

Hey Marv, who else will be there? I'd like to come up and watch.

Hi Clint, We missed you at the Auto-X. It was fun. I think the Desert Venom Race Team is running but check with Frank to be sure. I think most of us will be there in street trim for the kids. See you there.
Schedule is at: http://www.race-asra.org/santadash.html

Bob Stevenson from Tucson and I will be racing in the 100-minute "Enduro" wheel to wheel race. Each of us will be racing in our own Desert Venom Vipers.

The race is scheduled to start at 1:40 PM with practice and qualifying during the morning hours. There are supposed to be over 40 cars in this wheel to wheel race.

The Le Mans formatted start makes it exciting for drivers, crew and spectators. All cars are placed on the starting grid based on qualifying times. A crew member from each racecar stands on the other side of the grid. A bell sounds and each crew member runs up to their car, hands the driver the keys to start the car, and the race is on at that point. It makes for some pretty interesting traffic patterns!

There is a mandatory 5-minute pit stop for every car. Each team can choose when they make their stop. This gives ample time for refueling and mechanical checks. The driver must get out of the car during the stop.

On the 1.5 mile road course at PIR, you can figure the race will go around 80 or more laps, depending on how many full-course yellows we have.

I believe the toughest competition for the Vipers will be a couple of really fast Porsche Supercup cars and one real GT2 Porsche. All three drivers are very competent. There should also be the year 2000 Champion from the Speed Truck series.

Anyone in the Phoenix area will enjoy the spectacle. If you own a Viper, bring it to the track and do some free parade laps with a child from the Make a Wish foundation. You can also sign up to run in one of the street car groups throughout the day. The Viper is the featured marque for this event.
