Thanks Mike! Does anyone know if Mopar has a set of 3:55 gears for the SRT10? It looks like the gear assemblies are for RT/10 and GTS.

The brake rotors and calipers on the SRT-10 and the Comp Coupe are identical. Why not use the race pad from the Comp Coupe? The pads are identical for both front and rear calipers. Part #04898012AA in the Comp Coupe spare parts catalog. Price is $205 per axle set ($410 for all 4 corners). Viper Headquarters phone# is 888-960-3333. I'm not sure they will sell race parts for a street Viper, but you can try.

PartsRack Does! And quite a few of you drag racers are breaking the OEM diffy cross-pins inside the posi. The PVO SRT-10s that ran at VOI-7 broke 2 of em.

So our gear kits now include new, hardened SRT-10 cross pins, ($60 value) internal and external rebuilt service parts, as well as a pre-calibrated speedo kit, something MoPar never has offered. "Well Under $700"

"#1 Bang-4-Buck Performance Upgrade"

IN THE recent PAST.... Numerous examples of MoPar-announced Part numbers for Viper, but no parts ever came out! {Vapor-Ware, not VIPER-ware.) Even of a price appears, it's no sure-thing. Stay Tuned.

Jon, what sort of extra performance can I expect if I were to install the gear kit? Does it have any effect on my factory warranty?

1) 16% faster acceleration in all gears
2) "feels exactly like 80HP" for under $700 !
3) makes your de-facto 4-speed a functional 6-speed.
4) Lowers top end from 196 mph to 165 mph
5) only affects warranty on the rear end itself.....but SAVE the OE gears!
6) Stronger than OE

Re: Mopar Performance Parts for SRT-10\'s

Jon is the 165 mph top speed calculated or measured? I will post some graphs I calculated using stock and 3.55 ratios. My calculations indicate about a 10 mph reduction with 3.55. It is different than a Gen II as the SRT has bigger tires, higher stock horsepower and different drag (more than GTS and less than RT/10).

Here is what I have calculated.

and with 3.55 differential gears:

Jon,
I have switched to a 3.55 differential but have not had a chance to drive the car given winter conditions. I had asked if the speedometer needed any modifications because of the gear change. I was told that the speed is measured at the wheels so no speedometer mods are needed. What is your speedo kit about?

Thanks,
Scott

Re: Mopar Performance Parts for SRT-10\'s

Scott don't know who told you that but they are wrong. The speed is measured at the transmission and read by the engine controller. It does not compensate for diff or tire changes. Seems to me the calibration boxes have run a couple hundred on top of the differential change itself. Under $700 sounds like a reasonable deal overall. The big question then is how much to have the parts changed out and will the installer and Jon guarantee acceptable differential gear whine (my biggest concern with non-OEM parts).

Re: Mopar Performance Parts for SRT-10\'s

Ron,
Thanks for the info. I had sent my differential to Heffner in Maryland for the gear change and he had told me that. I will have to give him a call and get this straightened out. I certainly would like the speedometer to be correct and not have to constantly multiply by a factor. I am guessing that factor would be 3.07/3.55 or .86.

Thanks again,
Scott

That plus the odometer would be off by the same amount. Definitely worth getting the speedo cal kit.

So how can one tell if the posi "pins" are broken? Do you wait for the catastrophic "crunch" and then have it towed, or are there warning signs?

Re: Mopar Performance Parts for SRT-10\'s

I just talked to Jason At Heffner Performance about the speedometer issue. He said that that transmission on an SRT does not have any monitoring on it for speed and that it is done at the wheel. He had a transmission out in his shop and went to look at it to be sure. He said he has measured the speed with GPS with different gears and it matches the speedometer +/- 1-2 MPH.

Re: Mopar Performance Parts for SRT-10\'s

Okay, I admit I was speaking from the Gen I/II era. I will have to check the service manual. With ABS it is possible to monitor at the wheel. That does make the mod a bit easier and cheaper.

On second thought then what does JonB include with the pre-calibrated speedo kit?

That was my original question. I guess I will have to verify my speed just to be sure when I finally drive the car.

Re: Mopar Performance Parts for SRT-10\'s

Confirmed. The PCM gets the vehicle speed signal from the ABS module. Sounds like a great benefit for anyone changing gears.
