Further to my post of a few days ago regarding my conversion to rear exit exhaust on my '04 Viper: I have lots of pictures and several videos of the car doing drive by's and accelerating, even from inside the car. This exhaust conversion has completely changed this car for me. The exhaust sound was the only disappointment I had with this car, and now the sound is something I am proud of and truly enjoy listening to. I would love to share this stuff with all who are interested, but I have a dial-up connection (slow) and am new to this posting thing and don't have the experience or skills to attach pics or the sound videos. Can I mail a CD with all the data to someone with the knowledge and a high speed connection who can post the pics & videos?
To answer some of the questions about my first post: I wanted to keep the exhaust as simple, light weight and short as possible, which keeps the back pressure to a minimum and eliminates the need for any modifications to the car. Indeed, not even one additional hole or any cuts to the car are required to fit this system. I experimented with several different configurations including extending the pipes out to the end of the car, but found that the longer the pipes, the quieter it got. Unfortunately, the sound that was eliminated with the longer pipes was the desirable sound, the burbly-muscle sound and left the busy V10 sound that I don't like.
In designing this system, sound was my first priority, then performance and finally looks. The sound is great, the performance should be close to that of the Corsa Track system since it's not that much longer and only has one additional bend. As for looks, you can't even see this system unless you get down on your hands and knees! The tips are simply downturns towards the pavement, which is another trick that quiets the overall noise without the use of mufflers.
Someone asked about the heat wrap. My underatanding is that the wrap keeps the heat inside the pipes for better evacuation of the gasses. A poor-mans ceramic coating. Added bonuses are limiting heat absorption into the cabin and a very clean, almost aircraft-component look when you do see the system. I did not wrap the cats as the material does not easily conform to the diameter changes present in the cats.
I made two copies of this system. One of them will live on my car for as long as I own it, the other will be soon offered for sale in the classified section. If anyone is interested, my email is [email protected].
