My Fan is Causing My High Idle

I have been posting about a intermittent high idle problem I have been having and figured out what is happening but I don't know why or how to fix it. Last week my car overheated and I realized the fan wasn't working. I checked the ground running to the fan and found a lot of resistance in the wire, so I ran an additional ground wire to the fan from the chassis. Now the fan works fine when the motor get's hot - but when the fan comes on the idle surges. When the fan turns off the idle returns to normal. This also happens when I turn the air on as this of course tuns the fan on.
Anyone know how I can solve this problem? Do I have to fix the original ground wire going to the fan?

Thanks
Gary

I thought that was normal. Idle increases to allow alernator to keep up with the increased electrical draw on the battery (when the fan or AC are running).

The plug is fine. It is the ground wire running to the fan. When I ran a new ground wire the fan, it began working again, but like I said- when the fan comes on the idle surges to 1200 to 1500. It is not normal- at least it never happened before. The idle always stayed the same whether the fan was on or not.
My next step will be to disconnect to "stock" ground wire as that is still connected.

Go to the following link and read the complete article:

http://www.caraudiomag.com/testreports/0401cae_hyper/index.html

I have this on all my cars, including the Viper. I ran into this at a car audio/stero place, that installs high power sound systems. Don't worry too much about the increase in HP, especially on the Viper, but I can say that the idle is SMOOOOOTH. The article describes what it does, but basically it stabilizes the grounding system, and equalizes the voltage. On my older Chrysler Town$Country, it smoothed it out, and has more pep. Does this sound like 'snake oil', well, our Viper tech said my idle is smoother than any he has observed, except maybe a late model smooth cam, cream puff.

Just one short quote from the article(above link):
"According to Sun Automobile, there are multiple benefits to using this system: horsepower and torque gains; better gas mileage; and quicker engine starts. The company also claims that it can reduce audio noise."

Here is the link to the one(s) I have without the LED readout. I was able to obtain the non-LED model from the audio place I mentioned above for $100.00

Thanks Don - I am going to check this out.
In the meantime- I cut the "stock" ground wire going to the fan so now I only have the new ground wire that I ran. The problem remains. I am wondering if this black wire running to the fan is really not supposed to be grounded. Can anyone check this for me as it's not in my service manual. There are 3 wires going to the fan- dark green, light green, and black. The greens are the power, high and low, and I assumed the black was ground. Also I would like tyo check all the grounds on the car- I think I read there are 3. I know where the ones is on the drivers side under the pcm. Can anyone tell me were the other 2 are?
Thanks!

I made Grounding kits for the Viper, and they are much cheaper and just as niceas some of the guys selling them out there. It cost me @$80 depending on color and well worth it in my opinion

if anyone wants one i can buy the cable in Bulk and make some

I think I would be interested. Does a wire have to go to the battery also? None of the kits that I saw seemed to have a wire long enough for that. Would you be able to tell me the wiring points?
Thanks

Later,

Don't you need to run it to the neg. side of the batt.? If so is the cable long enough to go all the way back to the batt.? Did you run it to a place under the hood near all the ground points instead of the wheel well where the batt. is? I was thinking of buying this kit. http://www.eautoworks.com/html/ord-auto~performance-HKS~Earth~Ground~Wire~System-1-6873.htm thanks: spray

it should run all the way back to the battery, otherwise you are using the frame as your grounding points, which can cause "ground loops" which causes electrical interference ie..radio noise and volatge fluctuation. which is really what a grounding kit is designed to eliminate.
