That *****. Now if there isn't an OFF switch, I might just have to ask Ralph for the code and rewrite it. Or they can give us a RACE MODE, that has it turned off.I might me wrong, but I think by 2012 all cars have to have ESC in the US mandated by the Feds. There will be a off switch I hope

It was confirmed that ESC can be shut off. Per federal mandate though, I'm sure it will re-activate every time the car is started, so now it's just a matter of time until some enterprising electrical engineer comes up with a product to toggle ESC off upon startup. Something like this was done for the 350Z's that came with the stability program.

Maybe the regulations will just say that the car "has" to have it.
Does not say that it has to be "active" always, therefore the shutoff can be semi-permanent. Just a thought about getting around the problem.

I would bet money that it will have push-button disable like the SRT8's have now, and it will re-enable every time you shut the car off and restart it. Dodge has this technology in their inventory now, I can't see why they would reinvent it for the Viper.
It will not be a toggle off / stay off solution.

j/k. ESC = Electronic Stability Control, being federally mandated on all '12 and later model year cars to protect us from ourselves because we cannot be trusted and uncle sam knows best.

And after that, it'll probably be mandatory blue-tooth to ensure hands-free cell compatibility, and then head tilt sensors to prevent you from falling asleep at the wheel, and hand placement sensors to ensure proper 10/2 grip, and......
We'll be much, much better off then.

If you attempt to drive to work in a car without ABS, TC, TPMS, fresh runflats, Airbags, double latch hood, rear camera, and with a front spitter, loud exhaust or sporty steering wheel and interior...you will die. Better stay home. Too much freedom is dangerous.

AviP, did you bump into my wife recently at Gates and compare notes? Oddly enough, she says I'm beginning to look strange lately. Guess the night vision goggles I wore to bed the other night, may have something to do with it.
With all the new Govt mandates on cars to make them safer, yet we have the ability to turn them off at any time. What would happen if you were in an accident that was not your fault at all, but you had all the safety devices turned off. Could you be at fault and not covered by your insurance. This can be validated by plugging your car into Mr Professor to see what the settings were during the time of the accident.

Good question Bruce, I thought the exact same thing, which is why I suggest Dodge put a small explosive device behind the computer and then blow it, in the event of an accident, just like M-B does with the doors on the SLS. I imagine if they don't someone else will come up with the same type of gizmo. All these accidents and deaths lately, the Viper is going to be a heavily scrutinized insurance vehicle. Then again if they go off of total numbers of cars in an accident not cars per production for the year, we might be okay. Probably more Corvettes in accidents in one year as opposed to Vipers in all years of production.
Maybe we are not even on the radar. Hope not!

It has already been pondered by virtually anyone who has been adamantly against TC. Those who don't mind TC as long as there is an off button will someday ponder it also, but by the time they do it will be too late.

ESC or not, the 2013 Viper will have to be approx 3000 pounds with as close to 50/50 weight distribution as possible not to mention easier trackable alignment adjustments to have a chance in competing with the over crowded market.
with ferrari design being introduced i feel this can be accomplished.
I will have one of these new vipers if they handle the twisties as good as they have handled the straights over all these years.....

There's a difference between Shut Off and Truly, Really Off Off. My BMW has DSC that can be switched 'Off' but it's not completely off. If the 2013 Viper allows ESC to be truly turned-off to a non-functional state, great.

What? In virtually every mulit-make racing organization the Viper is restricted more than any other car just so the others can be competitive. I'm sitting here trying to figure out what you're talking about.shine

That is the case with the SRT-8s as well, the ESP button pressed once "disables" stability and traction control, but not really. It's like 60-70% off. If you hold the ESP button down for 8 seconds, you'll hear a "ding" chime and ESP turns "REALLY OFF" but it's still only like 90% off. There are overrides via handheld tuners like the Diablosport Predator that let you do 100% off, and aftermarket kits to let you put in a toggle switch to go into this mode at will.

So it's like the Close Door button on an elevator, or the Walk button at an intersection. This one we'll call the Ego button. It lets you think you're a skilled driver but really you still **** and need training wheels.

I'm sure I'll get one I'm getting ready to pay mine off so I can save for a new one. I figured the money I save from getting rid of 2 car payments this year I can put down a really good one when the new ones are out lol.

The hands free is already in place up here in Ontario, $150 fine !! People have been fined taking pics of accidents with cell phones as they drive by them !!
