I received this email this evening:

"Our current policy allows site sponsors to promote their businesses in
their signatures. We are working with Hendrick Dodge and expect them to
become a sponsor soon. This has been tentatively removed from your
signature while the site committee discusses the policy. Thanks for
understanding.

BUY YOUR NEXT DODGE FROM HENDRICK DODGE, YOU'LL BE GLAD YOU DID !!"

I get that we should probably not be posting FOR SALE posts on here for dealerships. But I can't mention how pleased I have been with Hendrick Dodge over my purchase, and make a recommendation that others interested in buying a Viper do it there? Help me to understand this one. I am not being a **** here, if you look at my tone, its mostly curiosity, especially since we seem to have a serious lock down occurring now on rules and regulations around here. I get a way with my fair share, but this is the last one I would have expected to get called on.

Can I change it to: I bought my Viper from Hendrick Dodge, and its was a complete pleasure? How can I let people know how pleased I am with HENDRICK DODGE ? Is there something in particular, that’s wrong with Saying I received Great service at Hendrick Dodge ?

I don’t get it... but I'm not the brightest guy here (definitely more so then Adam, Chad, Tony and Mike..) but still, am I missing something ?

Guess you ********** the wrong people Jon!!
I don't see what the big deal is either, so I am agreeing with you on this one. Look at the sig right below your original post. 99 R/T 10 has Macedo tuned in his so why is that any different than what yours said? Mine sig even says Snake Oyl and Nitrous Express so why is mine different than yours? I have no idea. I guess we don't live in free society after all.

This site (or the people that run it) definitely have some issues if you can't express your happiness with a purchase experience. *** gives?!?!

The next time you experience "Viper tax" from one of the sponsors, you'll know why: They need to make up for the $$$ they have to put up here just to be mentioned in passing.

I don't want to get on anyone's bad side here (too late), but I'd prefer the powers that be spend more time updating the website than busting ppl's chops for their sigs. There's been a new category (Driven) for months now, and it's not part of the drop-down menu. The navigation is inconsistant, and although the speed has improved significantly since a couple months ago, it can still use some get-up-and-go.

VERY Tough issue, and definitely open to suggestions.

Our sponsors generously support our website and for their support are offered exclusive benefits that include banners, posting privileges, announcements, classifieds, etc.

These sponsors are VERY sensitive to those who try to "circumnavigate" sponsorship with "free" advertising... please take no offense, Jon, or others, as we understand AND appreciate when you are enthusiastic about a dealer!

So now comes the hard part, should we allow your signature to include the name of the dealer you bought your Viper from?

If so, should it be limited to:

A) "ABC Dealership '03 SRT-10"

or

B) "I love my ABC Dealership '04 SRT-10"

or

C) "Buy your next Viper at ABC Dealership '04 SRT-10"

or... as has been the case in the past, should the signature be designed to help describe your car:

D) "ABC Mambasize 800hp package '04 SRT-10"

Yes, hopefully everyone has found a Viper enthusiastic dealer, and surely has the opportunity to talk about them when posts come up requesting "Who's the best dealer....." and "Where should I buy....." or "Looking for......", but will we dilute the value of advertising (yes, this is important as it does drive revenue into our VCA, and helps support the server/hosting/software expenses of our site) and risk losing sincere, loyal and generous sponsors?

Once again, our site WANTS to allow enthusiastic VCA members methods to shout about their preferred dealers... but the question is how to do this without turning this into a competition for "non sponsoring dealer band width".

Is this board run for VCA members or for the advertisers? I would rather pay more to the VCA and be able to post what I like than have the board run by advertisers.

The truth of it is around here theres alot of "picking and choosing" going on 1 guy can say/do anything he/she wants and another cant even mispell swear words or they get banned (ME) and its a real crock, it really feels like its being made up as we go along.

I agree with Warfang they need to spend more time updating (and fixing those slow a$$ server times) and less time busting chops, it almost feel like someone is watching 24/7 (do you sleep?) waiting for someone to make a mistake so ballz can be broken.

Sponsors???????? do the powers realy wanna go THERE???????? I do recall (fairly recently) a couple of these so called GREAT sponsors SCREWING people over, so dont let us say in our sigs who has done right by us but rather lets get sponsors who will bend us over with NO

...and thank you for the feedback Stugots.

Giving credit to a vendor for a job well done is fine in our book.

The question at hand (and we'd appreciate you selecting from a through d above so I can clearly understand your preference) is where do we draw the line?

Oh, by the way, Vaseline is not an advertiser.... yet, not a competitor to the advertisers on the site... so I think we can keep that one up there!

Joe, I see you are the Media Director. Please let me know how I can advertise on this site. If needed you can send me a PM.

Thank you,

Anthony

The best and most RELIABLE/HONEST advertising as always been done by satisfied customers,if some sponsors are upset that a competitor name is given "free" advertising for this exact same reason, may be they should try to have their products/services receive the same "free" advertising by offering better products/services/prices instead of complaining of unfair competition.

Will those thin skinned sponsors react in the same way if a competitor name receive "free" negative advertising on this board?
