Couple of nicks out of the car, was hoping you all could tell me if this is something I should contact my insurance company over, I don't want to run into the "that's not that bad" crap. The car is really nice, but does have some minor stuff, so I was just wondering if I will run into an issue having it covered? I have full coverage and have been with my company a long time. Guess I want the whole panels repainted, b/c I'd like to fix some of the other stress cracks on the panels and not just the chips spot sprayed and fixed, is that possible? You know if it was a daily driver or something then fine, I might not even turn it in, but it is bothering me.

The only advice I could give you is to take the car to a good quality paint shop :( Red is a hard colour to match up as over time the colour fades in sunlight, trouble is if you get the door painted under different light conditions you may see a slight diffrence in tint :(
Im not sure how your insurance companies work in the USA But if its the same as the ones over here, when you make a claim you will have to pay out your agreed deposit then when it comes around to renew your insurance they will bump up the price because you lost your 'no claims bonus' :( unless you have it protected?

That happened to me when my Cobra engine caught fire, I made the claim and the following year my premium doubled :(

Sorry to hear your news.

Other option is to go with big stickers :D I could recommend the Replica le mans look ;)

Insurance is for catastrophic events; yours does not qualify. Still a terrible thing and I'd be so pissed.

They are small, just deep "nicks" really like if you got pelted by rocks at 50mph, but definitely won't polish out that is why I was asking, this *****...

That ***** for sure. You might want to reach out to the Junkman on this. I recall that he stated once that DR. Colorchip/Langka kits gave pretty good results. The cost is pretty inexpensive as well. Just an FYI.

if they are not gouges and just chips or scratches they re not bad, i have used dc. color chip with great results on my viper for road rash scratches on the bumper, for the side sill get a flat black paint marker from a paint ship and touch it up. Total cost for the repair should not be more than 40 bucks. If you dont like it then take it to a paint shop. I have had rock chips that appear to be worse than your damage. IMO this is NOT insurance worthy, I wouldnt want a black mark on my vin number for this, that will cost you way more in the long run. Sorry this happened to you and it can be gut wrenching until you find out you have some options. I have been where you are before. Good luck.

Also like mentioned above Junkman is a good resource

Agreed, not worth making a claim, thats coming from a bodyshop manager. I could have those fixed in no time and the color match would be no problem at all. It would look like nothing ever happened.

Would be surprised if your insurance company would even accept this claim. Most likely not enough to even handle your deductable.

Some times it is better to just handle small items like this out of your pocket.

These things will happen if you drive your car. It's a tough world out there.

Agree with others. Just get a Dr. Colorchip and take care of it yourself. Repaints are rarely perfect, and if your expectations are high you might still be dissapointed.

Sorry about the road rash, but sometimes the cures is worse than the cold.

Thanks guys, I just can't believe the jealous (or whatever they are) people in this world that do this kind of thing, I truly am at a loss for words.

I've never heard of Dr. Colorchip, I'll google it, and will definitely call AJ as we live in the same town which is a huge bonus. Can anyone tell me how the color chip thing works? Thanks again.

Can you explain what you would do at your shop, if it is no big deal then I would like to have that done I think, thanks for any info.

Where was it parked? It almost looks like a runaway shopping cart hit it, or a careless person let their door swing open. Usually, when someone does something on purpose, it'll be at one height (like keying) or it will be on the hood (like dumping a drink on the car). Since there's also a chip out of the sidesill, it makes me think that someone just was stupid and careless and made a mistake - and then probably got the heck out of there quick hoping to not have to deal with your wrath.

I agree with everyone - I'd probably find a way to fix it without involving the insurance company. Another thing to consider is some policies won't cover vandalism, and if they consider it a hit and run, you generally need a police report to back it up.

I had a spot about the size of yours (maybe a little bigger) on my rear bumper and I showed it to my insurance agent. He told me "insurance is for when you hit a curb and damage a $7k side sill. Don't waste the claim and make your rates go up on this". As for the mark on your side sill...black sharpie and in 5 secs, it looks new. I agree with the shopping cart idea. This wasn't vandals. Vandals would do A LOT more damage. I doubt this was even intentional. It definitely still ***** though!

It's really pretty simple. I used it this past Summer. They have a good instructional video on their web site and you can hit You Tube as well for more videos. They are a really customer-centric company as the first mailing to my house contained the wrong color. It turned out to be a problem with Chrysler's paint code and they shipped me the correct one (GTS Blue Pearlcote). The key to the process is to dab the paint onto the chip and immediately smooth it (level) with your thumb (they supply a blue nitrile glove). Let the paint cure for a while and then use the pink solution with a lint-free cloth to LIGHTLY rub over the painted chip untill all of the excess paint is removed from the area around the chip. It works pretty well actually. Good luck.

Yeah I just checked out their site, thanks for the link! The damage is minimal, I'm going to take your all's advice and just go with the paint chip from Dr. Colorchip, looks like a great product, thanks for pointing me in the right direction, mods feel free to close the thread, thanks :)

yea just wait a few years and have the whole car repainted.

I did a 2k paint job on a 99 rt10. just the same color red. good quality shop for an amazeing price. car looked brand new when they were done. cheaper to find a shop and have the complete car repainted then going crazy over these little things..

funny thing is my rt10 was a 2k paint job to the origional red and my srt10 was a 10k paint job going to a custom yellow and man honestly I cant tell any differance. Good paint job is a good paint job. wait and repaint all when needed.

twister, thanks for the advice, any tips on finding a good quality shop for that amazing price?????? I really want the car painted b/c there is some decent gouges on the trunk and passenger quarter panel and the hood has a couple small stress cracks. The paint is amazing though, especially after I did the Adam's correction on it. Does it decrease the value to not have original paint? People would think I'm crazy to have it painted, but I guess I figure if it costs me a lot to paint just a few panels, why not do it all if you can do it for only 2K. I figured once a place saw the type of car it would be around 7K honestly so you have me very intrigued.
