Need some advice on ABS on the 2001 and no ABS on the 2000 GTS. I am looking at 2 2000 GTS red/ silver and steel gray/silver coupes. Is ABS really going to make a big difference? What pros and or cons are there ? My GTS will not see a lot of track running if any. I can wait for a 01 and probably go with the red/stripes. Should I go with the ABS or won't it matter too much?

Thanks, Dave

ABS will stop in a shorter distance and save $$$ for tires (no flat spotting). Some guys pretend that non-ABS is better and that they can stop faster without ABS, I say B.S., older ABS systems were not as good as todays technology and a pro could stop shorter on dry pavement but not on wet or otherwise low grip situations. The Viper's ABS will not be out performed 99.99% of the best drivers. Buy the 2001 without question!

Fred says it well, for the average person who even road races a couple of times the Abs will take you to the limit of wheel lockup and keep the tires from flat spotting....in the real world abs is great....

An additional, important point -- for 2001 they changed the rear calipers on the Viper to a substantially larger unit. Even without ABS, the '01 Viper would stop better. Couple that with the ABS system, and I've recorded repeated 60-0 braking of 110', compared with published figures of 143' - 155' for '00 and earlier Vipers.

Get the '01!
