So my right(passenger) door has quit working the outside and inside handles both died at the same time. Of course I can still open the door with by pulling inside handle till the manual cable opens it. Window still goes up and down when opening and closing the door and I have plugged the snap-on scanner into the car and can still open the door electronically with the scan tool so I know the door latch itself is still working. And the microswitches are still macking contact on the inside and outside handle.
But one thing I noticed the other night is the door lock button on the passenger door is dead the little green light is not on and the door lock does not electronically lock and unlock the car anymore. So my question is, can the inside door lock button go bad and kill the functions to the inside and out side door handles? And can the little door lock itself go bad or is it more than likely a broken wire leading to the door lock control button?
I know there is a smart viper tech that can help me here. So come on buddy:2tu:

My 02 GTS did the same thing about a month ago on the drivers side, I had to replace the door latch assembly, part only available from dealership. Inner and outer handles died at the same time. I could not hear the door plunger try to engage to pop the door open. I pulled the door latch assy out of the door and found some of the pins had corrosion bridged across the contacts of the connector. I cleaned it all out and tried bench checking it with a 12v power pack, no joy. I bit the bullet and ordered a new one, that was the ticket, it worked right away after installation both from inside and outside the vehicle, fairly easy to change. Hope this helps. Jeff

Hey Jeff thanks bud. But I have already pulled my latch assembly out and checked it and all seemed fine plus the electronic latch still functions perfect when plugged into the snap on tool and opened straight through the body control module. So i truly believe the latch is still functioning as it should but I could be wrong.
I am leaning toward the inside door lock button has died somehow and is telling the inside and outside door handles that the door is electronically locked and just not letting the door open. But before I tear back into it I was hoping someone could give me a pin point area to actually look at.

sounds like the ems module under the dash. ill look up the wire colors codes so you can check the pin outs on the module. also, check the fuse for it first.

Maybe you've checked this already...

There should be a harness connector near the door hinge (hmmmm am I confusing gen2 with gen3?).

If so, pull out and push in to make sure all pins are seated.

That would be great i await the wire color info and if possible explain where I can find the ems module.:headbang:

Joseph I thought about that too but I think its more the gen 2 cars that have this problem with bad connection/broken wires. But I am gonna dig into that when I tear into it again just to make sure.:2tu:

Same thing happened to my 06 coupe. Needed a new door activator mechanism (not sure the exact name but it is a dealer only part). It came with the outside button, the one you push on to open the car. Dealer had to swap this with the painted one on the car. Had a bit of an issue with the Extended Warranty because they said they didn't want to cover the part as it was a "body part". Dealer had to explain internal mechanism came with the external door button but that was not the problem.

The corrosion post made me think of another problem I had with contacts on a camera battery. We cleaned the contacts, battery still wouldn't work.

Then read a camera forum post where they recommended a product called Dexoit. It is a contact cleaner and corrosion remover. Bought that stuff treated the camera & the battery, that same battery is working a year and a half later.

contacts may look clean... But...

Did you check fuses? Just for the heck of it try disconnecting your negative battery cable for 30 seconds and reconnect.

I tried everything I could to diagnose but I am giving up. Will have to find a very confident Viper tech and take it to him. Anyone in the Nashville area that is a highly skilled and trust worthy Viper tech? I need a rear end installed too.

aren't you closer to Memphis? There's a tech there that opened his own shop. Spencer Automotive, I think. There's a link on our regional site.
