Replacing gas cap cover....help please

I recently bought a new, untarnished gas cap cover for my GTS. When I try to take the old one off I am having trouble getting it free from the gas inlet pipe. As I pull the old gas cap cover off, the inlet pipe is trying to come out of the car with the gas cap cover.

Its as if the rubber gasket is stuck to the gas cap cover. The only thing that I can think of to try is to put a flathead screw driver in between the rubber gasket and the inside of the gas cap cover, and try to pry it lose. But this might cause damage to the rubber gasket.

Any suggestions?

and when you put it on...take the filler tube out, put it on the gas cap, and then put the filler tube back in. Dont try to jimmy the gas cap onto the tube while it's still on the car.....risky scratching the paint that way

Usually when things give this much resistance, and I pull on it anyway, I end up breaking something. Are you sure it's ok to rip this thing off?

Well CRAP. The person who sold it to me on the other Viper Forum, sold me one that does not fit.

The holes do not line up, and the underside is different.

When you put it back on remember there's a little hole in the top of the filler tube that you can use to hold it as you work the cap and gasket back onto it. There's a write up somewhere that explains in more detail, but knowing you have something to hold onto and pull with might save you some time.....

It was advertised for a GTS, but it does not fit the Viper GTS. Its too small.

Just have it stripped, repolished and recoated. It's not tarnished, it's aluminum oxidation. And the bubbling is the protective clear coat wearing off.
