We had a great turn out for the Nevada Open Road race this weekend with Vipers well represented in all the speed classes including Unlimited. The highlights of the weekend was the 1-mile shootout (basically a 1 mile drag race). There were some serious cars lined up for this event. 800hp street rods, a stroked blown, and NOS injected late model Corvette, twin turbo Ferrari, Lamborghini Gallardo and much more.

Top honors went to Hugh Hoard :2tu: in his DC Performance prepared twin supercharged Viper (which also ran well the next day in the 150mph 90mile race)

The biggest surprise was the MPH. These cars just do not run the same at 7000ft altitude! Here are the results for the Vipers and some pics
:headbang:
182.9 mph Hugh Hoard 1997 GTS Dual Supercharged
169.6 mph Greg Baxter 1999 GTS Cam and heads
165.6 mph Art Irvine 1994 RT/10 Venom 550 w/NOS
159.2 mph Jerry Mall 1997 GTS K&N built motor
157.8 mph Bill Bagshaw 1997 GTS (stock)
154.6 mph Marco Radosavljevic 2003 Comp Coupe :usa:

Marco was driving the Comp Coupe for fun and could have turned a much better time, The stock coupe was run by Bill Bagshaw (The red light Bandit), He is a renowned drag racer from the Ramcharger-Hemi days. Bill went on to win the 150mph class on Sunday.

Kudos to Jerry Mahl who won the Unlimited class in his 1997 GTS!

Did Roger Morgan go??? How did he do?
No, I'm sorry to say he didn't make it. I ask him if he was going when I saw him at Thunderhill in March, he indicated then he would likely not make it. I (we) all really missed him. He has been one of my many mentors since joining this elite group of people.

How hot was it there?
For the past three years it has been almost ideal weather. Cool calm mornings giving way to slightly breezy afternoons. Temps in the 40 - 80 degree range. The biggest problem would be the altitude, that and the nerve to go 150+mph for 90 miles.

I think we should also point out that Jerry has won this event in the unlimited class the last three times it has been run.

Congrats Jerry - U Da Man! :headbang:
