When's the last time (or first time) you saw that headline?

I've had this mod in my car for almost two years and finally put together a kit for the home mechanic to do the same thing. If you can drill a hole, you can do this.

Shifting the T-56 is pretty easy, but when you want quicker shifts, the long clutch pedal travel slows you down. This kit shortens the clutch pedal motion, giving you about 40% less clutch pedal travel and quicker clutch disc release. It also lowers the pedal slightly, closer to the brake pedal height. Yup, what Sean Roe's clutch linkage mod does for Gen 2 cars, this does for Gen 1 cars.

The kit includes all the parts you need, including Loctite, how to measure where to drill the hole, plus if you need a 1/2" drill, I can provide one. Don't worry, the drill bit is 3/8" shank so it'll fit in most homeowner size hand drills. Full instructions will be included, and I'll share them up front for you to see what you need to do before you buy anything. I'd have this all wrapped up by now except the weather here is keeping me from gettting under the dash to take more pictures.

Another benefit is that if you don't like it for all the time (because it'll also be a little stiffer pedal) you can go back and forth by reconnecting to the original arm anytime you want. The instructions will show the secret to removing the crazy OEM plastic bushing without breaking it and the new clutch peg has a nylon bushing with a "bow tie" hitch pin that absolutely can't accidentally come off. I hate the way the pedals on our Gen 1's line up...
My concern is the "weak" pedal assy. the Gen 1's have..
I know the bushings go bad alot and sometimes the whole shaft needs to be replaced...
Is your creation going to put too much stress on that assy.?
Just wondering???

Gen 1 cars started all the hub-bub, so they deserve a little attention. :2tu:

Specially machined 1/2-20 UNF Grade 8 bolt, two zinc-plated jam nuts chosen to match height of OEM stand-off, slightly modified nylon bushing, can't-fall-off bowtie hitch pin, "red" Loctite 262, picture instructions and measurement aid to properly position hole: $25

If you don't have a 1/2" drill, I can also supply one with a 1/4" shank to fit in your hand drill: $9

Scott- I have 74,000 miles on my car and have only replaced the pivot bushing once, and that was even before this mod. I'll take a closer look when I do the pictures for the instructions, but I wouldn't expect to further aggravate anything. Maybe I can come up with a better bushing/support piece (another Gen 1 specific part!)

SNKEBIT- Patent? There were ~5,000 Gen 1's made, I wish it were a big enough market to have a patent infringement violation!

Actually Tom, this compliments a mod that I was about to write instructions for. I've added an industrial bearing and housing to the clutch/brake pedal shaft and box assembly. The housing of the bearing also strengthens the entire pedal box. I took careful notes and got plenty of pictures but I've procrastinated on doing the actual write-up.

If anyone wants Tom's mod and is afraid of the extra stress on the stock nylon bushings or pedal shaft, my mod would alleviate that. The bearings I use have a side-load rating of about 3,000 pounds I think. I only used one bearing on my car as my goal was to eliminate wear on the pedal box and the resulting play but maybe with this mod we'd add two bearings. Still very easy to do.

I'm motivated now and will post the information about my mod in the next couple of days.

Look at the pictures above; the lower connecting point (the one on the left that has the "bow tie" hitch pin), is where the hole is drilled through the pedal to provide this connection point.

95Viper, as ruckdr points out, the 1/2" hole is through the pedal arm and 0.860" lower than the center of the OEM peg. If you have a drill, then I assume you have a small diamter drill that can serve as the pilot hole. I can provide a 1/2" drill bit with either a 1/4" or 3/8" shank if you don't have a drill that can accept a 1/2" drill bit. The instructions have a simple and accurate way (and little measurement gadget) to locate this position accurately. You want the hole just far enough away from the existing peg so that you can rotate the nuts and bolt to tighten them, but going too far is, well, sloppy and will eventually get to an undesireable level of pedal effort.

1) PM or email your address to me.
2) In your note, tell me if you also need a 1/2" drill bit.
2) I mail item(s) to you.
3) You use enclosed envelope to mail me a check.

The instructions are completed, with pictures and helpful hints to get the job done well. We're officially open for business and taking orders!

Sent. Thank you for your help. Also sent a PM to Rob Hook too about his clutch bearing kit. Have not heard back yet. Figure Id do all of it at the same time. Do you know how to get a hold of him?

Got your package. Thank you. This will permantly fix the problem Ive had with the "birdcage" bushing falling off clutch rod.
