Just saw an 02 RT/10 with only 3,000 mi. and the hard roof still in a box-never put on car -bid 35,000 and no sale on the live Mecum auction from Indianapolis-Makes me wonder what my 01 is worth having over 10,000 miles on it. Doesn't seem to be much interest from the bidders

that's an auction - autotrader or craigslist will pull more, just may take longer than 10 minutes.

Did you buy the car for resale or to enjoy it? Markets will fluctuate, why stress over it.
Well, if you bought a BMW 7 series or Merc S class back in 2001, they would have cost about the same as a Viper. Now they are literally worth nothing. Viper should hold its value pretty well, so don't worry about it. Enjoy it, drive it

So you paid 45k to have a car that will provide you with experiences that are priceless.
Very good deal if you are driving the car and enjoying all it has to offer.
If it's just sitting in the garage as an investment, and you're more concerned with it's monetary value than 'how long the tires will last this time'. You are missing out.
My 2006 coupe is only worth 5 bucks now. I bought it new.
It is the most stupid financial move I have ever made.
With all it has given me, I have no regrets.

Interestign thread. Let's see....July 2005 I bought my 01 GTS from an "exotics" dealer north of Miami for $56K. Straight cash deal...no trade. Car was a one owner (Ohio car) with 7700 miles. So at that time, a 4 yrs old car with 7700 miles and a window sticker of 86K (which I have) sold for 56k.
Roll the clock forward from 2005 to 2010 (5 yrs). In 2010, you paid 45K for an 01 RT/10 with 10,000 miles. So about a 2k per yr depreciation from what I paid with similar mileage for the most part. I assume the window sticker btwn a GTS and RT/10 would have been fairly close.
I don't know...seems like a pretty good deal in 2010; especially with the low unmolested mileage. If the 2k per yr depreciation is linear, in 2014 the car would be worth mid/high 30's. But the market will ultimately define that. So I guess just enjoy the car, be happy, and drive ******* all you can!!

I think the market may have bottomed out for most of the older Vipers. How much worse can it get?
You gen II guys are around that 30-40k mark, most gen III guys are around the 32-48k range depending on condition and mileage, and gen IV cars seem to still be up there at 55k plus, depending on model and mileage.

I remember two years ago an 02 RT/10 (Graphite) sold for $69K at Barrett Jackson, plus buyers fee. You can't judge the value based off one car whether price is high or low. Just because car had 3000 miles on it doesn't mean it was a great condition either. I can remember when shopping for my car back in 03, I found several 01/02's that had less than 3,000 miles on them that weren't in the greatest shape. They had broken center consoles, worn drivers seat and torn weather stripping on doors. And that was when cars were 1 to 2 years old. Best advice is to just enjoy the car. You should never think of buying these cars as financial investments. They are an investment in fun though.

John hit the nail right on the head. Not to mention Vipers are a specialty type of car that attract a certain type of person. Obviously there was not any of these people in the audience when this car went across the block. Rare 1 year color cars with super low mileage go for mid 50's to the right person all day long. That said Vipers have never been the type of car that sells very quick at all, expect it to be on the market for a while or until the right person comes along unless you want to give it away.
You also need to go to a few of these auctions to appreciate the quality of cars in attendance. From my experience there are some nice cars there but the majority of them are junk or at the very least not pristine. Mileage alone is not a good guideline, a lot can happen in 10 to 15 years even just sitting.

By the time any one of the Vipers is worth anything of quantity as far as dollars are concerned, you and I won't be worth nothing.
Drive your cars people. Make investments and collections in Real Estate. That is where you will get a return for your money. Not a Viper or any car for that matter.

Exactly. What is an investment for? For money? What is money for? To cover expenses, and provide a good quality of life. My 03 Viper cost some $$, but it has contributed quality of life. I have met many people, and made some person and professional relationships (all beneficial to life) that I wouldn't have otherwise. I consider the Viper one of the best investments I've ever made.

No cars are investments. They would need to double in value every couple of years to break even with insurance cost, tires, gas and maintenance. That said I do think some of the pristine low mileage Gen I and II's and even eventually III and IV's will hold their value well especially when compared to most cars. For example F430's depreciate approximately 10k a year. When compared to that the Vipers are the deal of the century.

Just drove from Venice Florida to NY. Did not see one Viper on the road. Was tired of looking at Vets before we left Florida. Eventually people will realize the minimal production numbers.

I hear ya. Dodge should give us $$$ for driving the darned things since it is a rolling billboard for their brand. I met my wife at the mall (shopping at Dillards for shoes...OH GOD SHOOT ME). She had parked next to me and as we were starting our cars, several young guys approached me to take pictures (for about 5 minutes). My wife just sat in her car laughing. Yeah..dudes. Where are the hot chicks that love a Viper (besides my wife). So ownership is PRICELESS.

Until she gets old and you want to trade her in on a younger model.......
