After an eight year hiatus from Viper ownership, I have another one. And it's the exact car I said I'd buy if I ever bought another one. '99 solid black GTS with the Connolly Cognac interior. I found the car back in December and had to wait until May for the owner to return from his winter home in Florida before I could go get it.

It was a one owner car with 10,895 miles on it. Babied. Still smells, looks, and drives like new. My wife and I flew out to New York to pick it up and drive it home. It was in the village of Cato, NY. We stayed in Geneva at one of the Bellhurst Castle properties. I had no idea how beautiful the Finger Lakes area of NY is. We had a great time there and met some very nice people. We took two days to drive home to Minneapolis and stopped by Niagara Falls on the way since neither of us had ever been there. The snake performed flawlessly.

Four days after getting it home I had it on the road course in Brainerd, MN. I only got nine laps in but beat my previous best lap time in different car by 6 seconds. And that car was no slouch. Those PS2's are awesome. Needless to say I'm very happy with that especially considering it's been over eight years since I road raced a Viper. I can't wait to see what it will do with better brakes, a little more horsepower, and more track time.

It needed new rubber since it still had the original Pilots on it. I also decided to get a set of CCW wheels. I love them but they are a royal PITA to clean. The PS2's like I mentioned are awesome. Other than that, I've just been taking care of little odds and ends. I pulled all the plugs today and they're perfect. The plug wires looked perfect too but I put new AB's plug wires on anyway. It has some goofy aftermarket cat back exhaust with tips that stick out the back about a foot. I pulled the resonators out and cut as much off the tailpipes as I could to get the tips closer to the car. Much better but they still stick out too far. It sounds better though! I'm not going to waste anymore time on it cause it's going to get replaced anyway. I guess I'm going to have to install those Eibach springs I bought afterall. Still too much wheel well gap for my liking. My wife bought me a Porter Cable buffer so I'm working on some of the swirls in the paint. Nothing major but black shows everything. The price you pay I guess for having the best color on a Viper. :D

Here are a couple shots of the car outside our "hotel" in Geneva the day we picked it up.

Thanks guys!

The wheels are CCW's.

I also need to thank VCA member Terry Furman (NOTVETTE) who volunteered to go look at the car for me back in December. I was on the phone with him while he closely inspected the car nose to tail. He did a great job! If you happen to read this Terry, I tried to contact you while we were out there to let you know we were picking up the car. Thank you!!! :2tu:

Really nice car! What kind of exhaust are you going to put on it when you change the tips?
Thanks!
Bellanger headers and I'm going to fab my own 3" exhaust. I'm tossing around the idea of converting to side exhaust. :D

So, does that mean I have a little under 8 years to replace mine? Maybe it is the curse of owning a Red GTS with black stripes.....once you sell it you have to wait 8 years?

Good for you Keith! BEST thing you EVER did to the 97 was the exhaust! :) I NEVER touched it....except to add the HF cats.

Looks like someone had a blast picking up their new Viper. It is always great making a good experience even better. By the way, I love the color combo.

No curse! :D No need to wait 8 years Tony. I definitely DO NOT recommend it.

The exhaust really did sound good. So, do you have any idea where our car is now?
