Ok here is my problem, I have put about 1500 miles on my 2000gts, and the oil gauge was always reading 2 notches PAST 40. Well I went canyon carving to see how well the viper would handle in the corners, it handled AWESOME by the way as it should. But now the oil gauge is reading straight up at 40 I checked the oil level and it was low 2 quarts, I put two quarts of recommended oil Mobil 1 and checked oil level and it is dead on. I then took it out for a spin and at idle it is now 1 hash mark past 40 but as cruising speed the pressure goes back up to 2 hash marks past 40 is this normal or do I have a problem. I was thinking of changeing the oil maybe it has lost its thickness I guess. 10.30 is what I am using, since its summer should I use a thicker oil. will this help my oil pressure. thanks for any input

The car should not use any oil. There is one thing you should check on the car. Early 2000 vipers had ring problems. Check the build date on the car. If it was put togeather in late 99 or early 2000 check with a dealer like Woodhouse. They will check your car's numbers and tell you if your car falls into this group of problem cars. Don't use a small local dealer because they may have never heard of this and will not know how to deal with DC to get the car fixed. This is what happen to me until I called Woodhouse.

I think the car was made too late in the year. The motors that had the problem were made in Sept. to Nov. of 99. Your problem is most likely some thing else than the rings.

Take a look at the air cleaners and see if you have oil in the filter on the left. If there is alot of oil it could of been from the valve covers. This happens with really hard breaking. Do a search on oil problems on the board and you may get some other ideas.

Bill don't lump all small Dealers into that category, I'm a VERY small Dealer with five on staff including myself and I knew all about the FEW motors that have had the oil consumption problem. :smirk:

Sorry Wizard--- its just all the dealers in my area said I was making things up and would not help me out. I know your one of the best out there, and that size does not always matter.

Was it using oil before the canyon carving?
No it was not using oil because I would check it at least once of week just to make sure, because I have read other post regarding oil consumption.
