So there I am, minding my own business and wondering how I can do a practical mod for the SRT that looks good in the process. Let's see, I suppose it could start something like this:
Of course that would look pretty slick next to yellow, right? Right!
And I suppose that in order to make it practical and not purely poser, it should serve some purpose on the car besides looking awesome. Purpose built means purpose hardware:
Oh yeah, and you wondered what it is? THIS:
After the 40 second installation (same as the factory soft boot) I took it around to a few other Viper owners and a local shop. Their thoughts? WOW!! They thought it was pretty dang incredible and one RT/10 owner said, "Man, it really completes this car. Why didn't they offer this from the factory?" Wanting more feedback, I stopped by this year's World of Wheels here in Kansas City. As expected, the car quickly gathered a crowd. "Is that REALLY carbon fiber?" people asked. Yep! A few even thought that it didn't have a convertible top, as the carbon boot was so perfectly aligned with the rest of the car. Definitely a bonafide hit!
This is one of the best cosmetic mods I could have done. And heck, it will probably go a nanosecond faster due to the light weight and gloss finish (less wind resistance ). My thanks to Steve Prescott and the folks at Factory Ten for building such an awesome piece. While I sure as heck won't let you have mine, you can contact Steve directly as he is listed here on the boards as GTS-R 001 (click his name to get his contact information). He also has these available in painted fiberglass and all of them are very lightweight to boot. Each has a soft underside to protect your top from getting marked up. Very, very cool! Here is one last shot of the car on our way home. Lookin' good, if I may say so myself!
