Tags (license plate renewals) here in the People's Republic of Virginia are only about $85 for two years for vanity plates. However, personal property tax is levied annually in October, and is calculated at 4.57% of the vehicle's assessed value. The last Republican governor managed to get "tax relief" passed which "forgives" 70% of the tax on the first $20,000 of the vehicle's value. Bottom line: Personal property tax due on my 2005 SRT-10 -- $1,715.57.
