On the way back from Corpus Christi, Tx. this DPS trouper is in the grass and see us all pass on the highway, turns around and comes by us one at a time and looks for front plates then pulls all of us over to show his power. Writes us all warnings, not sure why. Guess he just wanted to brag about pulling a few snakes over. We all told him the bracket was on back order. Go figure. http://viperclub.org/sctexas/images/Coastal_Trip_9.jpg

Cops are power drunk little men until someone jacks your precious car or caps a family member, then they're your buddy? Or are they still jerks that you just happen to need? Must have been a slow day. dj

Absolutely pathetic.

I myself was pulled over about 4 times for the exact same thing. I finally broke down and said screw it, and installed the front plate.

- I was one of the cars in that pic! When we initially got pulled over - we had no idea why! Then after he played his power trip by collecting all the licenses, he proceeded to write each one of us a warning, one by one!

It was hilarious how he just took his time at each car...just as he was at the second to last car, I see Wayne's head from the top of the cruiser with its lights going and wonder what the heck he is doing. As he breaks out his camera and begins 'stealthily' snapping shots, we all about died from laughter...it was a classic ending to a great Viper weekend!!!

That's their job. It doesn't mean they get/have to be a ****.

Besides, I'd prefer they prevent my car from being stolen rather than recovering it after it's been trashed. The same goes for being capped.

No doubt most cops do have a power "fetish". Obviously this guy was just trying to tie everyone up for a while or he REALLY could have been a stumpa** and given everyone tickets! I personally have gotten out of 3 tickets in the past year! One guy had me dead nuts for street racing from a red light to well over 120.He saw the whole thing and pulled me over 2 miles down the road. He gave me an ear full but let me go. Obviously this Texas guy was board or out of Krispy Kreames. This cop was a giving tough love, but not all are like that. dj

Nice Chuck..
So lets say your driving through Georgia and they pull you over and put you in jail.. I guess it's their job to be ****ing jerks and impound your car AND put you behind bars, but like you said.. They have every right to do that. Then after they were done laughing at you , they went down to the local pub and drove home drunk. What a pathetic legal system we have. With the front lines being guarded by authourity deprived, wife ****** mentallity , jealous cops that trained for 3 months in a backwooks police acadmeny and now they think that they know the law.
But I guess they have every right to be like that..

sorry, phew..

I meant it is their job to answer a call if your car is jacked or somebody puts a bullet in you, not to issue frivolous warnings and tickets every chance they get, you ****.

Winghouse today?

This is a SUPERB system that attaches with no bolts (industrial suction cups), is lightweight (aluminum), and stays in place at speed. The aluminum doesn't touch the body of the car, only the suction cups do. You could add a small bit of rubber to the frame where it crosses in front of the horizontal cross hatch, however it shouldn't touch there either. This was designed specifically for the Viper and nothing else. You could have a mounted front plate on your car before the cop got out of his. Take it on and off as you wish for shows, long trips, etc.

These are available from Woodhouse Dodge and you can e-mail Nancy Shanno directly or call her at 800-889-1893. I believe the price is a very reasonable $49.95 with everything you need to have that front plate on in no time! This beauty was designed by Kansas City's own Frank Rabuse and was produced in limited quantities. First come, first served...

I just can't bring myself to put the front plate on. I've received two tickets in a year for not having it but what the heck. I can't even use the "on back-order" excuse because I finally got mine, I just won't put it on. I'm thinking of just bringing it with me in the car so I can show the cop I have it and just haven't put it on yet. I figure that will mean a lot more warnings and a lot less tickets!

I don't understand how a cop was able to pull over a whole group of cars? Why did you all pull over? He can only pull over one at a time right? It was you guys' fault for all pulling over.

When we go motorcycle riding, we have a standing rule. ONLY the person who is being pulled over actually pulls over. All of you pulling over is just asking for tickets.

If I am last in line and a cop comes behind me, I pull over. If he goes by me to get the rest, I continue on my way. Simple.

I agree that not all police officers are the same. Some are really cool and that was cool that he gave warning but there must be an underlying reason. You dont write them for your health. What hacks me off is that tons of cars do not have the front plate and a cop just stops the ones he wants to at random. If they are going to inforce that law they need to stop everyone and not be subjective. He was a young policeman in his 20's. To single out who he wants is where the crime is. But on the other hand he may be your lifesaver one day.

Ya albert sorry to hear about the Houston guys. That was crazy and again they were selective as to who they wanted. As to how he pulled us all over, he got infront of the first viper and we all pulled over but me and he came out to the edge of IH-37 and signaled for me to pull over also. Just cant outrun that dern radio and glad I didnt cause it was just a warning. Shew. But someone, such as the officer in this discussion please tell me why he would waist his time with the whole group and write warnings?????

We all pulled over because he directly told each of us to do so! I could see him pulling up on all of us behind one by one...he pulled into the 11 o'clock position and angrily motioned and moved his lips to me telling me to pull over (he did this to us all). I was actually pretty scared - the way he acted you would assume we had been running from him like a COPS episode!

I have respect for officers and do realize they are there to protect and are putting their lives on the line...this was just out of line though. I am actually very surprised he did not write tickets with the way he was acting. As we sat there for 45 minutes, we counted over 30 cars that went by without front plates. I think the main point of this is that it was very obvious that we were singled out and that is more the issue.

Simple??? What dreamland are you living in???

I recall a post some time ago where somebody was attempting to gather sigs for a petition to change this very law. Apparently it hasn't worked yet.

Does anybody know how the law applies to front plates with something other than a license number? I've seen plates with American flags, Utah Jazz, and other "messages"...

Hostile,

I apologise for "my" perceived tone. I will remove my posts immediately.

I take no offense to your kit car comment, to me the kit car went out with the "Myers Manx" dune buggy, but then again, that too is a seperate opinion.

Guys come on don't hate the player hate the game. some of you say that COP was a A$$ but all he did was give warnings. If he wanted to be an A$$ he would have gave tickets instead. So don't trip on just a few warnings guys. yes I'm a cop no I do not write tickets, or have a power trip and, no I did not install my front plate, but if I take the car to work I do install the removeable front plate. Because If I get caught with out it by an inspector its no warning for me it,s A DAYS PAY.

P.S. NEON SNAKE just to let you know here in CHICAGO there are a total of five COPS who own a Viper. So the dream car is not a dream for some of us.
