This was my first VCA event and couldn't have been more impressed with everything. It was so much more fun than I could have imagined, and was even more grateful that I was able to share the experience with my Dad. I grew up going riding in the passenger seat of his Jeep (he's a huge off-road nut), so it was awesome to be able to switch roles and let him ride for once! Thanks goes out to everyone involved with the planning and running of the event!
The autocross was fantastic. I started out there in the morning and literally just did run after run for a good hour. I got the Viper this past November, and this was the first time I had any chance to push it at all. It was fantastic to be able to learn the limits in a safe environment. I spun it at least 5 times!
I did the Mid-Ohio school last summer with their TSX's and since I was hooked. It was my second time at any track, first time at BeaveRun, and first time at any track with the Viper. Skip Thomas literally saved my ass, warning me in the morning that when the brakes go, they give you one tiny warning, and then go to the floor. Well that scared me enough to check the brakes before the end of each strait away, and sure enough they literally went to the floor on the back strait at over 100, upsetting the balance of the car. Once the spin started, I pulled the handbrake in desperation and was pumping the brakes as frantically as possible. Thankfully it stopped in time and I didn't hit anything or anyone! Lesson learned, time for slotted rotors and fresh motul 600 before each track day.
Even better is I caught everything on video... See around 12:30 for the spin
Can't wait for next year!
