pinion Gear (rear) nut torque value?

I'm looking for a torque figure for the pinion gear nut, the nut that bolts the driveshaft to the rear pinion. the manual says "the torque should be the reading recorded during removal, plus 5 in lbs." the problem is the nut fell off while i was driving, so i don't have a reference torque value.

The nut that holds the yoke to the pinion? I don't know that there is an actual torque spec for this. I've always done it by feel. There should be a slight amount of resistance in the bearings. I tighten the nut, then give the pinion a few taps with a hammer into the diff and the yoke a few taps away from the diff and then turn the pinion to feel resistance. You want to tighten it a little bit at a time so as not to over crush the crush sleeve.

Did the yoke loosen up from the pinion? If the yoke also came loose the gears might have been damaged.

the yoke did come off the pinion completely, can only hope nothing was damaged.

i got my answer via mark williams. if you a running a solid sleeve instead of a crush sleeve, the tq value is 150 ft lbs.
