Powder Coating Valve Covers

I'm considering powdercoating the intake and valve covers but not sure if there's anything that can screw up with the magnesium (alloy?) valve covers?

Anybody out there with experience in this? Is a regular powder coating process OK for the valve covers?

How did you poweder coat your valve covers without getting any bubbles from out gassing? I've tried mine and had problems.

it came out pretty clean a few tiny bubble where they dont show... lots of prep work I guess

How did you poweder coat your valve covers without getting any bubbles from out gassing? I've tried mine and had problems.

In this picture I had a lighter grey smooth powder on. No out-gassing bubbles at all, but the color just was not what I wanted.

I have since gone to a dark grey wrinkle. Just like my coater warned me, I have a few bubbles from out-gassing. Not too noticeable so I just ignore them. Lesson learn is: 1) if you want to do black there is a special anti-out-gassing powder for castings so go with that; and 2) smooth textured powder does better than wrinkle as wrinkle starts to cure on the outside and traps the out-gassed air in the curing powder.

You MUST remove baffles inside valvecovers before sandblasting or you'll ruin your motor...

PS. The Gen1 intake has been Extrude honed ($700)(+polishing & powdercoating) comes with injectors, steel braided hoses, chrome throttle cable brackets and billet injector caps, will be for sale, since I am ready to put the SC on my car. (No throttle bodies) I am asking $550. PM me, I'll be taking it off as soon as my car is back in garage. (about 3 weeks)

Thanks for the info and the links. Mine have some additional engravings (as opposed to the reliefs the stock ones have) on 'em so I'll check to make sure they don't necessarily have to get filled in.
