I am wearing down the EBC Greens and looking for replacements. Looking for opinions on Stock vs. Hawk vs. whatever else is out there. Alan's Performance has a sale on the Hawk HP pads for $89, would these be good to used. Just checking the tirerack site shows they are for street/autocross. Anybody have input on them? The greens were ok, but I want to get a little better performance. TIA, :2tu:

Greens blow. The do not have the same stopping power as the oem's. So anytime you can replace them with oem, or hawks, I would do that !! I ran EBCs for a while, because I am a lazy sob, and didnt want to wash my rims as much, but reality is, brakes are meant to stop you, let them do their job, and you do yours.. wash your damn wheels!!

I'm sure the hawks will be a little more messy (brake dust), but who cares!

I use the Porterfields as well on my Miata that I autoX and they are far superior to the stock ones I replaced. They dust less than the stock Viper pads but I think they would stop better from just a seat of the pants feeling. Never tried green stuff and I will use Porterfields when the pads on the Viper need to be changed.

Do you have a link for Alan's Performance? I'm need pads and was looking to get Hawks Performance. $89 is the cheapest I've seen yet.

Thanks

I just ordered (3 minutes ago!) the Hawk HPS pads from TireRack. I am going to try them along with the EBC rotors. I also considered the Porterfields.

I am also giving up my EBC Greens since I hear the new ones are not as good. Also I'd like to get back to something a little more performance oriented, but hopefully without quite as much brake dust and squealing as the stock pads.

What is the difference between the HP and HPS? I would like to get my car out on the track a little but haven't to this day. What would be the better pad for 90% street use? Would you get the HP pads over the HPS if they are cheaper or get HPS because it's better for my application and not worry about the money?

Does that mean you don't want the EBC greens I just pulled off my ride Ken???

I really can't believe this, but I agree with Jon... :bonker: I bought some EBC greens for my ride and pulled them off after 3 weeks. I'm back to the dust filled rims and squeaks, but I feel much better about the stopping power of the OEM over EBCs.

Yeah, all the complaints about the new EBC formulation made me rethink getting another set. I felt they were marginally acceptable before, but I certainly wouldn't want to go backwards from my last set. We'll see how these Hawk HPS pads are. They might be a reasonable compromise. I should have all the parts by Thursday, so I'll have to drop by and pickup the brake tools later this week so I can put these puppies on and test them out this weekend before hitting the road to VOI9.

That's cool... Give me a call when you want the tool (worked like a champ by the way). You can stop by, I can meet you somewhere... Whatever works for you...

I just switched from EBC Greens to Porterfield R4S mainly for the dust factor. EBCs are not as clean as they used to be. I heard Porterfields also do very well on the track but I do not have any experience tracking with them yet. They are VERY clean though.

From what I have been reading the HP pads will give much better performance over the HPS due to the Ferro carbon material. The HPS is designed for less dust and gives less braking performance.

I just switched back to the EBCs - the brakmans were great
at stopping, but I just couldn't deal with the dust and the
squealling. I even had a guy at a gas station let me know
it was time to change the front pads - thanks but no
thanks.

I have the Hawk HPS and have been very happy with the stopping power and the lack of measurable dust. It's hard for me to give an unbiased opinion as I also changed out the rotors, installed tom's 40mm rear calipers, and bled the entire system (may have still been the original fluid from 1993). Absolutely better than what I had - no questions about it.
