After looking on Ebay tonight at Vipers, I noticed that all of the 96/97 GTS's have a door under the net part on the back of the console. Mine doesnt have this. It has the net, but is just smooth underneath it. Do I have the right console or was some made that way?

there should be some sort of glove box opening under the net. That is where the keyhole for the alarm system is. What year is your viper?

Uh-oh. What does that mean?

I've heard that there were a couple of counterfeit Vipers made in '96 by a small group of Russian ex-aerospace workers in a small factory in Azerbaijan. The only visual clue is the lack of the glovebox door. One other difference is that they had no Carbon Composites to make the body out of; so, they used titanium salvaged from scrapped MIG-31 interceptors. Other than those two things, there is no way of telling them from the real thing. You may have a very rare car there ! :ooo:

Sounds like you might have an aftermarket panel. Maybe an autoform. Check behind the seats and see if there are any cutouts for 5 points harnesses. A stock panel will not have cutouts.

According to KBB and NADA, subtract $10,000 value for any of the counterfiet Vipers AZTVR spoke of. Since our political relations arent very friendly with Azerbaijan, the US economy is really frowning on produts made over there.

Just knock on it. If it is solid-like, possibly fiberglass.....it is aftermarket. Look down by the outboard seatbelt mounts to check the carpet. If it IS an aftermarket piece there could be a possibility that car had a rollbar at one point and the carpet could be cut/missing. If it is the same material as the center console around the e-brake handle....then I don't know what to say. :)
