The state of Hawaii began issuing photo speeding tickets
last week on the Island of Oahu. They nabbed almost 1000
speeders (1 mph or more over the limit) the first day !
They say that once they get the bugs worked out, they will
begin using the new system on all islands. The maximum speed
limit here is 55 mph! Gimme a break ! It's nothing but a
revenue raising tool, and half the money goes to the vendor.
I know there are several brands of radar detectors out there,
but I also know there are radar and laser jammers. Does
anyone have experience with these, good or bad ? Are they
legal ?
Thanks, Robert

This country gets more and more frightening as it takes more and more of our freedoms away. They pass a ridiculous 55mph law and then the average joe* says "you play, you pay" when it's broken. I guess we're all supposed to abide by the law no matter how wrong it is.

*No slam meant to everybody named "Joe", just the average ones.

Photo speeding tickets a violation of your country given civil rights.....

There is a section here in Tampa Bay where if you go there you are under police automatic surveilence. They take your photo when on the street and try and match it up with convicted felons, etc. One person already was wrongly arrested at his home because he looked like a criminal. What is this country coming to? who knows..Lets take the law only ONE step further and let the government inside our homes... Don't laugh.. we are almost there...

I understand the best way to combat video speeding tickets is a very simple low tech liscense plate cover that the camera cannot see thru. Don't know if it works....

Actually, they sell this stuff that is spray-on that makes it tough for the cameras to catch your license plate. Makes the license plate apprear white.

BTW - A small bottle of this stuff costs 15 bucks in the "official" form. But a little bird told me that women's hairspray is _exactly_ the same thing.

We don't have the cameras in GA [that I know of yet], but if they start using them, I'll be running to Costco to stock up on hairspray.

They have 15 or so camera equiped vans that park in
different areas daily. They say that anything that causes the
plates to be non-legible is illegal.
This whole thing is a ploy by Lockeed Corp. They approach the
state, show them how they can generate millions in added income
by installing their system. And all for only 50% of the take.
What's the state go to lose ?
Oh yeah....The insurance companies are all for it. You get tickets, they raise your rates. Naturally they claim that it's
all done in the name of saftey.......
Does the Valentine system just warn you of radar in the area
or does it actually jam their guns ?
And plain hairspray will make the plates illegible ?
I just had another thought, I'll bet they start cracking down
on cars with out front plates also......now, where did I
leave my front plate bracket ?

I'm not sure (but believe me someone on this board knows for sure) but the only real 'jammer' is also really radar itself which (if you're on the same frequency as the police unit) renders theirs useless. And, of course it's illegal since you need a FCC license for the radar. And, of course, you can buy a used radar unit of e-bay or somewhere else for $150 and up depending on how new, etc. I'm told (not having actual experience) that it works well. The "instant on" versions also create a lot of brake lights in front of you on the expressway when you turn it from stand-by to on. amazing

Hi Robert,
An interesting anecdote to the previous posts; on of the states (Colorado?) was using the photo speed system, and was paying a portion of every ticket written to "the manufacturer" as a kick back to pay for the system. A State judge ruled last summer that this was illegal & unethical and ordered ALL tickets written to that date be dismissed or refunded! The Judge said there was a major conflict between legitimate "law enforcement" and a motivation for profit by the private business!
