Rear View Mirror is all up in my face and I can\'t see!

OK, so I now have the 1" seat lowering kit which helps a bit, at 6'3, the rear view mirror is totally killing a good chunk of my vision in my 94 RT/10. So I pull a search on rear view mirrors and haven't found what I was looking for.

So here it is -- for those of you who alos have this problem, what do you feel is the best solution?

1) Move the mirror over 4 to 6 inches to the right?
2) Move the Mirror up higher?
3) Move the Mirror down close to the dash?
4) Rig in a rear view camera?
5) Other Option?

Thanks

Reminds of a quote from a movie 'what is behind me doesn't matter'. I choose number 5-other option: Just rip it off and throw it in the trunk.

Lower the seat with the 2" kit, and "shem" the front up a bit...Does anyone else drive your Viper? If so, quit letting them drive it...Then there will be no need to adjust the seat...With the 2" lowering kit, my visiblility has improved dramatically!

I definately need the 2" kit (6'5") but as the "better half" also drives the car, I need the 1" to retain the travel. My problem isn't so much the rear view mirror, but the fact that the top of the windshield is straight ahead in my field of vision.

And to those who'd say "just don't let her drive it", I'll tell you what I tell everyone else- you chip in for the payments, you can drive it whenever you want. :)

all you need is side mirrors. just like a truck, use the sides and pitch the rear its worthless unless youre checkin your face for glitter as youre on your way home (purely hypothetical situation of course)

Slaughterj,

E.A.D :)

LOL! I have had entire cars hidden ahead of me by the rear-view mirror, it's all part of the viper experience to dodge your head around it to see what's ahead to the right :)

I had that set up since day #2 of owning my Viper (2" seat drop was already done on day#1 and had Woodhouse shim the front of the seat on day#2 before I drove back to Ohio). I can see better out of my Viper than my Dodge Ram pickup truck because my eyes are lower in relation to the top of the windshield. My Viper's rear view mirror is never in the way with this set up.

BTW - I'm 6'5".

Ulysses, thanks for the link. I actually read that topic which talked about regluing it. My post here was more about finding out what tall guys (over 6 feet) are doing with the best results.

Snake Bitten, now that I have the 1" kit in, I am thinking I should have gone with the 2". Afterall, I do have the seat ALL THE WAY back. I might move the 1" to the passenger side and order me a 2" for my side.

Go to a junk yard and find a car with a mirror that is smaller. Use that one.

It would have been a good idea for Dodge to have a dash mount for the mirror. Probably some government regulation that wouldn't allow it.

I drove a bud's Viper that had the mirror removed. I'll never drive it again. When the side mirrors are pointed to the blind spots there's nothing to show you what's behind you. Pretty important especially on the street with all the idiots around.

Superbar, you've reached your complaint quota. One more and it's back to Vettes for you.

Re: Rear View Mirror is all up in my face and I can\'t see!

So, who here has actually mounted a mirror down by the dash? I'm not sure I want to fix the problem by making another one, that being, making my interior UGLY by putting a mirror on the dash. But then again, I thought a roll bar in an RT/10 would be ugly -- then I saw some photos and actually like it.

That being said, anybody have any photos of a dash mounted mirror? Is it best to get one of them longer multi lensed mirrors that you see all them low rider type cars having?

Chuck 98, I still have my Vette, so there is no going back to them ;) Scary part is that I have a motorcyle, truck, mitsubishi and some watercraft -- but wait -- now I want to get a Denali (and get rid of the F150), buy a boat and one newer jet ski. The woman is trading in her Mitsubishi this week on a new BMW (the sport coupe version of the 330) and I think I may have her convinced to take it out to a road track (Button Willow) with me, so that all the whining and complaining about me spending money on racing, can come to an end! Boy, buying toys never seems to end. Taking pilot lessons, and already there is talk of what kind of small plane to buy next year. Sheesh!

a dash mirror is something ive contemplated for months but after putting in the mito mirror (compass, temp, and dual reading lights) im as content as can be in an rt10. i guess at 6'1" i just made the cutoff for the height inconvenience.

imo; dash mirrors are very nice looking if the right size, thats the key

Without the seat lowering kit, my head sticks up far enough that I can just look over the sport bar to see what's behind me.

I'm 6'3". I've had this problem in all my cars. I just duck my head down and peek under the mirror occasionally. It becomes a habit fairly quickly.

P.S. Isn't it amazing how something as small as a mirror can obscure an entire car if it approaches at just the right angle. Kind of a forward blind spot.

rdustman, I saw this really ugly looking dash mirror. Is that the only one they have?

I did remove mine. It was more of a hazzard than a help. Actually wasn't an origional idea, another Viper friend took his off and after riding in his car I couldn't believe the difference. I have driven vans and trucks with only side view mirrors, you get used to it. I do keep my mirror in the glove box in case a cop gives me a hard time, I'll just make out like I just re-glued the metal thingie on and was waiting for it to dry. Only an equipment violation, if that. Try it.

I would think that mounting a mirror on the plastic dash on the Viper would cause a lot of vibration problem.
