Well got off the phone with the dealership, my rear is cracked on the recall front, no biggie.

The problem is the honkin stereo and the wing. They say Chrysler is not covering any non-standard parts, so the removal and re-install of the stereo has to come from my pocket. (amps, speakerbox, cd player)

Additionally, they are worrying about my wing, not saying its gonna get damaged, but its in the way. This is definately a secondary concern, I mean, duh, it's in the way, if they scratch it I'm sure they'll make it right with a little buffing, fine by me.

But what's the deal on the stereo? Is it my fault it's cracked? I certainly don't want my stereo pulled out and slammed back in, we're talking an extra $500 bones for pretty-much nothing.

Any advice? It's not a dealership problem its a dealership that everyone loves on here, and does everyone right, so we can't poke fingers at them, its me or Dodge.

Or I guess you can say "Geez *****, you shoulda known when you put that crap in there you would need to pull it all out when your rear cracked, so of course you gotta pay".

Joy.

You may want to get over to another dealer that will try to work around your mods. If you don't, I can refer you to some people but the problem is you would need to get your car to California. But the good news is he has performed dozens of these recalls and for him they are no big deal.

I have studied the 109 pages of the printed recall many times. I have posted from day one that "I feel sorry for those with custom stereo installations".

I have seen some fiberglass speaker work that is going to be a real nightmare to get out to do this recall.

Referring him to "Someone Else" is not the answer. They may have done many of the recalls but how many actually had a "crack". The recall changes if the cracks are present. The gas tank MUST come out to do all the welding. To get to the tank, the rear interior must come out. It gets real dusty and dirty trying to access the fuel pump.

I can see the wing being in the way. Just to get to the spare is a pain with a wing. Doing all this work....it WILL be in the way.

The recall is so complex, that DC has started a national training program. They will be training the Viper Techs nationwide.

Nsane1,

Sounds like an invitation from Viper Wizard that you can't refuse. Even if you have to pay for the transportation, there is not many people out there that will do the additional work at no cost. And since he performed 18 of these recalls I would consider him an expert on it.

Don't wait too long or Viper Wizard may come to his sanity, and deny ever making the offer.

DC is hitting Kansas City in September. Maybe the East Coast doesn't need any training???

Viper Wizard are you sure you want to make that Stereo removal offer? Some of these sound systems took many weeks to install. That could add a lot of time to a repair.

I do feel sorry for the Techs working on this recall. Most of the guys are paid for the job and not enough hours are allocated for this repair. They are not paid an hourly wage. But how can you just tell a customer "I won't fix it".

Thanks so much for your advice, and especially for the wizards offer. If I hadn't already authorized them to pull it and start, I would seriously consider your offer...

Mr Houss has contacted me, and stated he is gonna bring this up with DC, so we'll see what happens.

Does it help that I'm patiently awaiting an 03, in which I was one of the very first to register (first 10 mins), had my dealer send the cert in the day it arrived, and I still won't get it until next year??

There just is no justice. And can a dealer say "I won't do it" yeah they can, they said, "you can come do it, or I can do it, but it aint covered" Well, I would do it, since I know how, but I'm 1000 miles away fro 2 weeks, so I can't...

Thanks again.
