My '96 GTS sputtered at redline at approximately 140 mph, which seems pretty slow for 4th gear redline, so I wonder if anyone can tell me whether it probably has the stock rearend or a lower (numerically higher) ratio? I have stock wheels and tires. Thanks.

I think my redline in 4th is just under 145 mph so it sounds like the stock 3.07 gear ratio is in you car.

Reggie, try the following link for a Viper gear chart. It will calculate the GEAR/RPM-VOLOCITY (MPH) in relation to which differential gear you are using. This is a very handy chart, and I think the link should be a part of the Tech section on the VCA main page myself.

Your transmission gear ratios are:
1st gear 2.66
2nd gear 1.78
3rd gear 1.3
4th gear 1.
5th gear 0.74
6th gear 0.5

Reggie,

I think it is a 3.31. I have the 3.45's and hit the limiter right at 135. Like clockwork.

Reggie,

Jack up the rear of the car, turn the rear wheel around three times and see how many times the driveshaft turns. If it looks like one (mark with chalk if you need to), then it's a 3.07, 1.5 turns of the drive shaft would equate to a 3.43, and so on........
