My rear window struts will not hold up the window for some reason. I've probably only had it open 10 times in 8 years so I'm wondering why they have gone bad. Can't be from being worn out from being over used. Anyone know why these went bad? Are they just poorly engineered? I don't want to spend the money on replacing them with OEM parts from Dodge if I'm just going to end up with POS parts that are going to fail again. Anyone else have this problem? Are there any aftermarket replacements available or are OEM replacements from Dodge reliable now? Thanks for the help! :D

Bad engineering. The gas escapes. I don't recall the number but several have posted the aftermarket strut part number here before.

Thanks Ulysses. Anyone know the part number(s) and source?

LIFETIME warranty sounds good. Do you have the manufacturer and part number?

I got mine off of ebay a couple of months ago. They were about $40-$45 for the set and they fit and work perfectly!! I turn the key and they pop up automatically, without even touching the glass. Install was a breeze too

Got mine from ebay a while ago... took 30 minutes to install. At the time, only had the Viper for a week, so I was overly cautious. Now, I can probably do it in about 10 minutes.

These are the exact one's that I got. They work great. Mine were made by Stabilus which is an OE supplier. When I pop my hatch the window pops up all the way without hesitation. It took about 10 mins. to install.

I ordered those exact same ones myself. Shipping was super fast and it only took about 10-15 minutes to install. Hatch pops up on its own and stays up. No more lifting it myself and trying to get it to "catch" at the top. No more having it bash me in the back of the head when I'm leaning in the trunk, either. One of the best $50 mods I purchased for my car.

I say if you got 8 years out of the stockers that pretty darn good.
There is a company in Saskatchewan, Canada that actualy rebuilds them, if you are worried about the date code or something.
