Hey Steve,
Thanks for some great racing! You couldn't ask for two better-matched yet totally different cars. I had a blast, and am looking forward to running with you some more!

All,
It was a very interesting contest. Steve's car clearly had a small power advantage (best traps 118.9 vs my 117.5), while mine had a substantial traction advantage on launch. That, combined with a better R/T from yours truly, allowed me to take this Viper vs Supra round in a clean sweep. As Steve says, most of the races were so close that they could easily have gone the other way, as you can see from the timeslips:

Race 1, Steve made a couple driver errors which hurt his launch and his mid-track drive. I had a clean run, although I bogged a bit on the launch:

Race 2 the sun had set, and Steve and I both spun heavily on the launch as traction went away. I started shifting to 4th because my speeds were increasing...

Race 3 was the closest of the night. I tried a wet burnout to improve my launch traction, but apparently needed to go several seconds longer than I did -- my 60' was quite poor, and Steve almost nipped me on ET. Fortunately, ET streets are very forgiving

As you can see on the timeslip, although Steve was ahead through the 60, right after that the ETs hooked and catapulted me forward, giving me a lead by I2 which I carried the rest of the way down the track:

Race 4 it all came together for both of us. I went back to no-burnout launches, and Steve finally got a good burnout and a good 60' Unfortunately for him, a good launch on ETs is better than a good launch on drag radials, and I clinched our friendly match in the narrowest of fashions while scoring my first 11-sec timeslip on a stock-engined Viper

All in all, a great night of racing, and I'm really looking forward to the next round!

SilverSupra - you said you were going to e mail me back and I never went. If I had gone I would have brought another Viper too with me.
Next time when you get the mods done though. Close race.

I concur, I was there. Steve is the coolest Supra guy. There were a couple of pretty cool vette guys too. Kevin, I tried to call you but got no answer (I guess I should have left a message). Next time, I will be running too, hopefully with some M/T ET's and a Roe Blower. You probably should have the blower too by then. I think the next grudge night is Mid June.

To answer a few questions raised:

1) For these races, I was in my wife's Daytona. The engine is bone stock except for tubes & filters (equiv to a stock ACR). Other mods to the car include UNITRAX medium-duty half shafts, Autoform rollbar, Fluidyne radiator, Valaya cooling fan kit, 180-degree thermostat, and the Daytona bodywork. I removed the rear wing for the races to reduce drag. I was running Purner's ET Streets & skinnies setup, which I highly recommend; since the car is a '01, the rear calipers were modified by APEX Motorsports to fit inside the 16" CCW rear wheels.

2) The Vette-eating Civic (turbocivicsi01) never showed up. Pity -- perhaps I'll catch him on a future visit.

3) You can always find the current schedule & racing hours at http://www.sacramentoraceway.com . Generally for grudge nights, the gates open at 4:30 and racing is from 6-10 or 6-midnight. I got a total of 6 runs for the evening, about one every 40 minutes.

4) Steve, you'll never own a Poopra in my book. Instead of talking smack and then wimping out (like that guy "Blunt" with the "11.2 sec if I'm unlucky" car

), you showed up and ran a race where you knew you'd be the underdog. Props to you, bud! I'm looking forward to seeing how you run a single, or maybe some naaaaawssss

Steve,

It's good of you to post the losses, especially because of Ben's tire/traction edge. Close runs.

Ben,

Congratulations on the wins! And getting into the 11s with a stock engined car.

I am also curious if the Turbo Civic came, and how he did.

Next trip that you guys make up to Sacto, I'll be coming along if possible.

Thanks for the timeslips. I'm looking forward to seeing the videos.

-Dean.
