RT sport bar....

I recently went and looked at an RT and noticed something. I noticed that there was A LOT of scratches on the sport bar (where the paint is). Is this normal for an RT or was this a case of carelessness?

My sport bar is not scratched up too much. My windshield frame is in worse condition. I've since learned to toss a towel over it when attaching the top.

How many miles on the car? Excessive scratching with low miles would indicate carelessness. I have nearly 70K and it still looks pretty good.

The RT has 19,500 miles on it. I figured that it was prbably carelessness because the RT's that I saw at the last meeting didnt have any that I had noticed. Thanks for the info Chuck!

I also have one or two small scatches that I did myself.
None on my windshield frame.The towel is a good idea I think I'll try that.

Also depends where you live.In Seattle it could rain any
time and you might have to take the top on and off.I always
keep the top in the trunk just in case.

The towel's a good idea. I have zero scratches on my RT/10. When I get caught in the rain with the top off I just pray I don't hit any stop lights, and drive home. If you keep it over 30 mph, no rain gets into the cockpit.

Did the engineers design it like that on purpose, or just a side benefit, or do all convertibles do this over a certain speed?

I call BS on that one!!! Rain even came around the windshield pillar and into the car too.

You have to be really careful with the rear latches to make sure they hit the slots or you'll get scratches on the Sport Bar.

I think it's a typo. I think Tracy meant to say "under 30mph". My hardtop is solid, but my soft top gets more and more water the faster I go. At 70mph I need a snorkel.

He couldn't have meant that. That would mean the Viper could be parked, top off, and no rain would get inside! LOL

Just drove through a major downpour yesterday where the rain actually stun hitting my forehead - driving fast enough in a light enough storm will result in little water into the cockpit, but with greater intensity or longer duration, water rolls over and around the windshield frame, dripping onto the steering wheel, center console, and seats, as well as forming puddles in the door handles and under the center subwoofer.

Let me clarify!! If conditions are just right, you won't get *much* rain in the cockpit. It can't be raining hard or be very windy. I've had convertibles since I've had a license, and it's the same in all of them.

If you keep it over 180 mph very little sun light can get in (kind of like a reverse black hole) :D

drove in the rain many times; sometimes got a shower. sometimes stayed dry, nevertheless i always have a nice "100% egyptian cotton" towel riding shotgun (and usually a nice lil lady to operate it, LOL)
