after four yrs, my 99 rt10 rear window has finally killed the rubber seal. all along the bottom and both sides the rubber seal is separated and basically shot. so, whats the deal on these rear windows, is it yet another DC phenom which is no longer available or can it be replaced? (actually the window is fine, its the rubber seal that is done)

thats cause yours sits in the damnn garage tampa man, LOL

bottom line mine needs replaced so do i gots to do the old "bend over and take it like a man" custom replacement or is this part for a 99 rt10 still offered at a reasonable cost (LOL; resonable and cost are two words you never expect to go together in a sentence when discussiong viper products, LOL)

badbyte, i wish it was salvageable enough to glue together, id do it.

You might think so, but I gotta keep it handy for our daily 3:15 summer showers. You northern boys get those rains that last for two weeks. Here it's top off in the morning, top on at 3:14, top off in the evening.

As far as I know, the seal doesn't have a part number and never did. I've gone round and round with dealer about this. A friend of mine is looking into a seal that resembles the stock one, a helluva lot cheaper than buying the whole window(which is what they tell you that you will have to do at the dealer...$680!)

I have the same condition on my 1996 RT rear window.... it is separated along one side and all across the bottom.

I am anxious to hear more about this alternative that LethalBite might have a line on ?

well, let me in on it if/when something is known cause right now with a seal that looks like dry rot from firestone's finest, the seal is not only useless, its not savable.

Call the allmighty Wizard, he should know!

My handy dandy Viper parts CD shows no seal, only the following:

4848 883AA - Backlite w/seal
4848 886AA - Backlite snap assembly

IF DC has nothing, there has got to be a fix, like the trunk seal off a 63 Lincoln or something as simple as a generic weatherstrip from Pep Boys! Someone here HAS to have the answer to this fix that is simple, affordable, AND looks halfway nice!

It would be cool if someone would do an AM rear window that is TINTED and reasonably priced...

Wonder if Biff at ViperMania should be able to pull this off?!? Shouldn't be too tough...

You might be able to get some rubber material that would work. There are edge protector products that are designed to keep cables from rubbing against a metal edge, when going trough a hole. Sort of like a grommet but sold by the foot.
An electronics or mechanical supply place might have it. It would have to be glued on to the glass but I had to do that with the stock piece.

Clean up the seal and use the Dodge ATF-RTV glue that they sell. It is a fast curing black silicone based glue. Makes great seals. I used it to glue in the Vmania door seals and even crated some of my own.

VIP, I think you may be on to something. Some kind of U or L shaped weatherstrip, channel or seal rubber, RTV'd to the glass. As someone mentioned before, there has got to be a generic U shaped rubber/weatherstrip piece that can work.....hmmmmm

ViperJoe.......Biff at Vmania has them available for cheap. A great investment for RT-10 owners. What the new seal does is create another seal around the other seal when the door closes.
