Our goal was to set-up the car to go 200mph. With our gearing calculations (3.54) and stock trans we knew that 850rwhp w/ 960 rwftlbs @ 7psi would take us to just about 200.

We also knew that if there was no need to push the car, then we wouldn’t. See, we didn’t run around and shoot our mouths off about kicking everybody’s ass. (or should I say kicking SVS’s ass). We are not trying to lead everybody to the promise land and finding out they are being led into quicksand. Some people need to look and see how many bullet holes are in their feet from shooting themselves so many times. I think certain types of people have a hard time being responsible for their actions, so they go through life creating one huge mess after another…….anyway…….

If we wanted to we could have changed the springs in the wastegates, increased the boost and placed a different map in the Motec in 15 minutes. We discussed after the 2nd run if we should do all these things. We got all the numbers of our competition as soon as they finished their run. All you had to do was ask and we were given the numbers…..imagine that!.... After our competition made their 2nd run, we realized that 8-9mph wasn’t going to happen. So we cranked on what was left in the springs (on the wastegates) and went with that. When I use the reference “we did this or we did that” “we” stands for “SVS” that means my father and the guys who work in the shop. I’m just the driver. If you knew me real well you would know that almost all of the time I get the information LAST. And it just so happens that I’m also the person who has always tried to write things about what we do. I make sure that before I write something like this I get the facts straight. I enjoy recalling the events and writing all this replay. Hope you enjoy some of it.

The funny thing about how this whole event played out is that before we left for the sandhills, I was saying “give it all its got” and “I will push 230…. just jack it up” I was totally in line with how everyone on this board thought about “why we didn’t push it all the way” and “bringing a pellet gun when you got a cannon” I wanted to rocket but my father kept telling me “maybe we don’t have to”. I was to busy to know exactly what my father had planned in the Stryker. Since we got back I have told him so many times how brilliant he is and congratulate his wiseness.

When we came late to the 1 mile shootout event I was rushing to get dressed and didn’t have time to discuss anything. I told the guys in the crew to put the chutes on, because I believed in my mind that I was possibly going to be running 220 to 230. I honestly didn’t know. I seen the S.O.R.C. staff walking down towards us and I new they were going to tell us we had to hurry. I heard my father say “you’re not going to need them” and I yelled out of the Stryker saying “If this thing goes in the air I sure in the #@ck will to”. The SVS crew was rushing to put the chutes on as the S.O.R.C. staff came to the car and told us “WE HAD TO COME TO THE LINE NOW”! My father leaned in the car and said “they don’t have time to put the chutes on”, and I said “Forget it then”. As he walked away from the Stryker he told me “You’re not going to need them”. I didn’t pay attention to him as I rushed to the line. I got last in line with a few cars to go. !bam! I was at the front with not much time to think. I wimpled out off the line and then ran it to redline in every gear. It ran flawlessly and so smooth. When they told me the 195.5 mph I was bummed out and actually thought I had been beat. I don’t think I found out someone had ran a 191 until after the second run. I didn’t ask what or why about anything. The only thing I tried to figure out was what everyone else ran and analyzing the Motec data to analyze my driving.

The first two runs felt pretty much the same and the third I decided to short shift 1st and then run through the gears. The only problem when I short shifted 1st was how quick the power came on in 2nd gear. I burned forty foot of rubber going into 3rd and mashed the pedal in all the gears. 5th seemed to go on for ever. Every time I was at the line the S.O.R.C. safety crew egged me on how much they wanted to see 200mph. It was a great rush to hear how excited everybody got in the stands when we hit 200. I loved making the return trip and getting everybody pumped up by swinging fist out the window. It was great for the people.

On the third run we were at 152.6 Kpa which equates to 7.67lbs of boost and the engine temp. was 191 degrees. I remember sitting in line and watching the ADL Motec dash. When the temp is below 187 degrees it is in WARM UP mode and it only reads up to 3000 rpm. If just sitting the Stryker would stay at 179 degrees. I had to constantly be revving the engine to get the ADL in RACE MODE so I could see the entire rpm range. Quite FN awesome.

Hey Svs how much hp and tq does it take to hit 200mph in the standing mile?? Can I get there on 850rwhp and about 850 tq with stock gearing with 345 pilot cups? You had 3.54 gears so you had to shift to 6th at about 180mph ;)

1. Weigh the Viper with you in it, full tank.
2. Rear wheel dyno; average area under the curve.
3. Divide one number into the other for hp/weight ratio.
4. Assume CD is the same for two GTS's.

5. The better ratio is the faster accelerating car.

6. Argument over.

7. Figure out who has the most RELIABLE system at the best price. That's what we really want to know......

Once again, it sounds like Sr. was afraid of blowing up the Stryker in front of everyone. Jr. just drives so he doesn't get to make those descisions. If he didn't squeak out that last .05 MPH he would have finished with a 199.99, which would have ment one more bullet hole in his foot. Jr. if you still feel you can pull 220-230 in the mile than do it. I'm sure the rest of the tuners are working at matching, or surpassing the 200 mark set by SVS. Hell I myself will offer my services to help set it up if your crew isn't capable, the Motec offers a bit more flexibility than I'm used to tuning with, but I'd imagine I could get my hands around it. PC that offer stands for you as well, leaning things down a bit would get you better gas milage, and a few HP. I've got a bit of experiance with Turbos and a little less with Superchargers but I'm sure I could help either of you out. Although I'm sorry I tune for maximum performance, if you need it DETUNED I think I know a shop that could help...

Let me ask everybody something? Would you shake the hand of a competitor, regardless of what level he finished at, if before the event even started you were told by 4 other competitors how much this certain competitor told them how much he hated your guts and was also bad rapping your company. Now if those 4 other competitors also told you 4 differnet stories of Hp and boost levels that they were told by this certain competitor, then would'nt you begin to think.....Wow.....this competitor hates my guts and is a liar. That kind of energy will never get a hand shake from me. Thats like shaking the hand of a monkey on your back while that monkey is sticking a knife in your neck and twisting out your life.

We could show every possible thing that happened in the engine that you would want to know about in increments of 100rpm all the way through the run. (Data log)Only for anyone that is serious about information, knowledge and proven data. Otherwise you have many other options.

I have 4 personnal friends that were all told different stories about Hp and boost levels. 900 @ 12psi 1000 @ 11psi 850 @ 11psi, 850 @ 9psi. The funny part is that in the beggining the numbers were BIGGER, but when they cant justify their position the numbers go LOWER.

The best part is you can only depend on their Honesty and their word. Man... I feel sorry for anybody thats in that position.

Hey how much were you running? 850 @ 9psi.......PROVE IT.....I cant.......OK....c-ya later.

Thats like a **** star shooting BLANKS.

Jr, the thing everyone knows is cr@p is that you guys detuned the car to be closer to the competition. If you car really does make much more power, the decision to detune was probably based on the fact that you wanted to keep it in one piece. How stupid do you think everyone is? I don't have much more to say on this subject and from a business standpoint either should you. In my mind I can see your potential customers running as far and as fast as they can from SVS and this is not based on the car's performance, just yours!
This is just an observation from an outsider looking in.

We did not detune the Stryker. Im not sure what you even mean by this? If I said detune I believe I put things in perspective by saying we selectively chose our set-up to go to this race. See... competition and racing is about having a plan, and our plan was watertight. We are not the ones with the secrets. You guys all had the secrets about going out to the Sandhills, I read all the posts saying about all these secret things that you guys had. Are you sure that the secret isn't SHHHHHHHH I got my ass kicked by SVS.

SVS if you heard all these horsepower numbers WHY THE HADES DIDN'T YOU TURN UP THE WICK? To me and others that's all you had, the opportunity was there for you to REACH 220 TO 230 MPH.
You choice to be gentle and DETUNE to just beat the competitors. YOU ARE DEFINATELY A NICE GUY? With all the bad mouthing you could have put your FOOT SQUARELY UP THEIR A$$ but you DETUNE. Something SMELLS ROTTEN TO ME!!!!!

Jr. I hate to jump in being that I have never talked to you on this board, or any other for that matter. But you did use "detune" in your original post...
We placed the SVS Stryker TT on the Dyno just before we left and detuned it to 850rwhp w/ 950rwftlbs of torque at 7psi.

I've never heard anything exact about SVSi and any mishaps between anyone, but there's something up between SVS and PC. All I'm going to say on that is you can battle it out here. No one will win, the argument will always stand. Peace.

My SVSi built car is now at West Coast Viper getting some tender love and changes made to it that baffled the guys over there. Thought I would mention that, for what it's worth. The previous owner had it done at SVSi. I don't have turbo's and super chargers on the car though, all N/A. The previous owner of my car I believe is also the owner of the SVS car that blew the blower belt in the 1/2 mile run.

By the way, I saw the West Coast Viper car the other day with a lot of aerodynamics on the car. Poaolo, what did you do to your car to keep it planted, if anything? Do you have photos from the event?

Jason (west coast viper), you should post a photo of the car you guys ran -- some crazy stuff on the front and back that worked awesome.

I'd also love to see the SVS car and what it had on there.

Superbar, I just kept my foot to the floor and the stock body did the rest. I have been 200+ with the windows open and the car feels very stable, not really any different than 140 MPH. I did tape the hood shut, taped the fog lights and center holes in the autoform fascia shut. I removed the mirrors and the car is 2" lower. It has the exact same full roll cage as the SVS turbo car that was done by TAD Motorsports in Lake Zurich, Il. Murray at TAD no longer does street cars there after spending so much time doing the Vipers. The cage is really a work of art though I no longer have door panels. I think the SVS car had pretty much stock body panels. I did however notice there was a tray on the back end preventing any air from getting trapped in the rear fascia==> That probably gained them 9 miles per hour on the big end though... :D I am fabricating a similar but improved panel at the moment that should be good for an additional 12 MPH which should translate into an easy 204 MPH at 3,000 Ft @ 9psi with a full tank of gas with the same belt that went 191.8 MPH. Maybe I will build in the capability to detune the aero panel from 12 MPH gain down to a 9 MPH gain(probably more aerodynamically stable anyway,) so I do not hurt anybody's feelings, That's just the kind of guy I am. I would probably also need to get the official race proven parachute to slow me down from such speeds. I saw it on the Turbo car and it did not look like that difficult of an installation. I will, however have an explosives activated pin that will aim the blast like Sly Stallone in "The Specialist". Should be very cool...==> Stay tuned...... LOL!

Let me see if I can explain this.

When we went to the salt flats we ran in excess of 25psi. That is not stated in the magazine but I have all the Motec data that proves it. If you read the story from Viper Mag you will see were I said I shifted to early from 5th to 6th. We were using the stock trans. We had to keep the rpms higher in 5th, because of the overdrive in 6th. When I shifted too early the rpms dropped too low and in 6th gear the car began to lug and could not build the power back up to go against the wall of wind at 225mph. It says in the Viper Mag that we only increased 10 mph. That is inncorrect it was only 2 mph increase over a 2+ mile stretch. I stayed in it the whole way like I was in a trance.

The boost ran for over 2 miles above 25psi. and then the gaskets blew. antifreeze went all over the window and I was crushed that I let this happen. There was issues with the Motec ADL (digital dash now on the Comp Coupes) and I was not precise on were we needed to shift. The boost kept going up as the engine tried to work harder against the wall of wind. I had overslowed my momentum.

This was my first run on the five mile course. I was in awe being able to play in the same sand box as: The Turbinator 400mph+ , Gale Banks Power 400+ and many other heavy hitters. But it went to my head and I made a mistake. The next day we took the heads off and checked the clearances. Nothing was bent. Speedvision wanted to interview us and I thought it would be bad press beacause we were hurt.

We had lost 1 day doing this. We put the heads back on, put the Stryker back together and went on to run 246.742 mph. THIS IS THE SAME ENGINE (refreshed) we ran at the salt flats. Yes it’s a GEN 1…….But we have a GEN II…………and a GEN III…………..OH yeah we also have that RS that everyone thinks is what we used. That’s sitting on a engine stand and hasn’t even been to the dyno yet. I’m excited for our new customers.

NOW when I say DETUNED and 7.67psi.................

You tell me? How smart are you? Do you think we are worried about running 14psi? In 1 Mile? Because our competition is really around 11 or 12 psi and THEY have to bump it up, I think you should be more worried for them. Notice how nobody knew what they were running. NOOOOOO because then they can play it safe and tell you a lower number to make you feel better and them feel better. No stand alone engine management and they are telling you it will be fine? Maybe on the dyno, sure the 1/4 …and then there's those 80 – 170+ bursts. Big DEAL Tell them to drive it first, when its overboosted in the standing mile. SURE the quarter mile is fun and I don’t take anything away from anybody in that respect. We have not ran the 1/4……we are planning to. We have had this information for over two years now and just been waiting to run someone in the mile as a benchmark for us. It just so happened that the competition was a special occasion. EVEN BETTER.

So call it what you want: Detuned?, kept the boost low?, Selectively chose?

The bottom line is we beat the competition with a P-shooter! we didnt even need a pellet gun. And when you can do that....its pretty cool

Regardless of EVERYTHING being said, it sounds like it was a great time and I so wish I could have made it.

There is a certain spot on an interstate out here where I can relativley safely test. Below is my GPS from testing for the open road race. Keep in mind, this is not a claim for a standing mile, just a real fun run in the wee hours of the morning!!!

I agree. If they can run 25psi at 240mph+, why would they be "worried it's going to fall apart" if they ran over 7? Jr has said it's the same engine.. regardless if it was a new engine, I don't see them showing up to a race with something that they are afraid will blow up past a measly 7psi.

Haven't you guys ever taken a slower vehicle to a race, just because that's what everyone is racing? Where's the fun in spending a buttload of money getting out there, just to put on one more exhibition? Sometimes it just might be fun to show up with about the same power and still try to win. I know I have taken out a slower bike to race because if I showed up and whipped everyone through superior machinery by a country mile, where's the fun? The slow guys are having it...

Relax, maybe they just wanted to compete on a semi-level field for a change. I don't think there's any doubt that SVS builds the fastest Vipers, is there???

Snakebitten, Thanks for the compliment! I like the sound of those Sean Roe 3" stainless mufflers quite a bit. That is definitely me in the blue GTS in the last part of the video, slipping the RPS Carbon Clutch out of the hole for one of the better launches of the competition. This was the 3rd run where I was low on fuel. I would say the black smoke coming out of both cars is pretty comparable. So either they are both "chugging diesels" or they are both fine and someone was overdramatizing in a previous post.

==>Hey Jr. I can only hear 4 shifts from the in car camera footage of the mile. I thought you were running a 3.55 gear which would put you in 6th gear @ 180 MPH. I did not hear the gear change into 6th @ 180 MPH near the end. Are you sure you were not running the 3.07?

I have to say you shift the car much quicker through each gear than I can at the moment. I guess time and practice will do the same for me. Your car is definitely faster than mine for now. Congratulations again even though you refuse to shake my hand/acknowledge a fellow Illinois Viper brother's accomplishment. I hope to be closer to your car's performance at the next race!

How about it? Can anyone out there tell me why we ran only to the top of 5th gear using a 3.54 and achieved 200mph. It was part of our watertight plan. I see all kinds of charts and equations and Data that shows factoring for speed and top end. They are all over the place on the board.

SO WHY IS IT THAT THESE MULTITUDE OF CHARTS ARE BEING USED AGAINST US?

The answer is in the charts if you are SMART ENOUGH to figure it out.

I will give you a hint! We can do it but I dont think you can. You can try but without stand alone engine management------ BOOM!

JH has claimed he ran the 197mph[previous record] with only 670rwhp...You ran with 850rwhp and "only" beat his by 3mph...Whats wrong with this picture, assuming JH aint fibbing :)

What sanctioned event was it that JH supposedly pulled off this number.
