Santa came early. Calchrome 5 Spokes. Bling!

Had some road rash on my 5 spokes - so it was time to make them better than new. WOW - Calchrome does a great job. Total cost about $1200 including shipping. Turnaround was pretty quick - less than 3 weeks. Can't wait to get them mounted. Almost too shiny to take a picture of, but here are 2:

Looks like we should have approached Calchrome with a group buy! I did chrome the center caps and kinda wish I would have had the inside of the barrels polished with how deep they are (there was an extra charge, but I didn't find out how much.) Wallbanger - I really like the way your SRT lettering turned out, but I wasnt sure they could match the Kandy Red of my Serpent.

I know some do not like chrome wheels, but these remind me of the Cragar 5 spokes I had my first car - a '68 Plymouth Roadrunner. They do look outstanding and I cant wait to get them on my Viper. Really wish it was the start of Spring and not Winter.

I was thinking about the barrel's when I looked at your photos. I didn't know if that was an option. I wonder if it would be as smooth as the spokes, or like the outside of the barrel's with all the lines. Wallbanger said about $200/wheel, so I'm guessing shipping there and back was about $400?

I polished the inner barrels on my HRE's...looked great, but i'm tired of polishing. I'm now having the inner and outer barrels chromed. should look great.

They look really nice. Chrome will never go out of style. I too have a recent thread on getting my rims chromed, and also wish I would have done the barrels.........

I did not have the barrels chromed on the 5 spokes. They told me it is done mainly on the show cars.

Malu-Hope Rocket don't mind but here is a pic of my Viper with the HRE 547's.

These 547's are clear coated over a very high polish wheel. They look just like chrome. Most people cannot believe it when I tell them they are polished wheels with clear coat. These rims set out 3/4" further than the 5 spokes and not for sure but probably not as heavy.

Can't wait to see your pics and to get my chromed 5 spokes and check them out.

In my long life span Ive had a lot of different rims on many different cars but the 5 spokes on a Viper really look good. I think the chromed 5 spokes will look killer.

I also like wallbanger's Viper with the chromed H wheels. I am from the old school-I really like the chrome look.

Wow, Calchrome has alot of Viper wheels on the go. Mine arrived there on the 9th. Your wheels look great; do they do the whole wheel all the time or usually just the outer surface?

They do the whole rim except the inner barrel does not have a gloss finish.. i would not recommend having the inner barrel done as this is the part of the rim that suffers the most abuse in terms of dust,grime, rocks etc and probably would chip/pitt over time..

you can see the inner barrel of my rim below , it still looks fine....i detail my inner barrel once a week and only takes five minutes

i would also recommend using a sealant before install.. i use this stuff

This is what Cal Chrome told me when I ask about getting the barrel chromed.

I may give the sealant a try.

The wheels really look great and I have been considering having my H-Wheels done also. But everytime I seem to get a new set of tires, no matter where I go or express how particular I am, someone, no matter how careful, always seems to either nick the wheel, tear the tire, scratch or dent the wheel taking the tire off. Putting the tire back on seem to go alot easier than getting them off. I have been to Tire America, NTB, local tire shops, Shops that say they specialize in custom wheels. Maybe so, but it seems they always make the little mistake on "MY" set of wheels and never on anyone elses! How do you guys fare when it comes to tire mounting time?

Same problem here at the local shops. They say they can do it without scratching but I always find a few.

That is why it is best, if you can, to send the rims with tires on them to Cal Chrome. Cost more in shipping but no scratches or dents and they come back balanced ready to install.

I do like the 5 spokes - and Wallbangers chromed H spokes look awesome as well. I also have a set a of Razors that I think would look much better chrome than the polished.

i've owned both the 5 spoke and the H rim.. they are actually very similar other than the fact the spokes on the H rim have a H pattern... the spokes on the H rim are just slightly wider also... both have 5 spokes and both rims slant inwards towards the luggnuts particularly on the rear

i was going to weigh my chromed rims before i installed them but i completely forgot.....i would say the extra weight is extremely negligible if any...call calchrome for an exact answer

Also once you have your rims on your car be sure to send a pic to calchrome... my car is on their website in the dodge section

While we're on this topic, does anybody know if the polished H-spokes ect are clear coated? I assumed they are but I'm not sure, Im looking at buying a set to replace my 10 spoke(which are chrome?)

2 questions. They offer to clear coat them--should you get it? and 2having never done this and since they don't have a wheel exchange for the 5 spoke, what do guys do that don't have extra set of wheels?--use jack stands? What kind do you recommend? Thanks

i actually bought an extra set of 5 spokes(vca member had a set that he bought new and never used) and then sold them when my chrome rims came back.....I also used the boxes that came with the 5 spokes to ship my H rims to calchrome..Calchrome uses their own shipping boxes...

Another option is to buy a used set of old 10 spoke from partsrack... shouldn't be more than a 1k, then he would probably buy them back... he may even rent them to you as he has a bunch of 'em

Don't bother with the clear coat unless your rims are exposed to road salt...just add your own sealer as i mentionned before
