Seat Lowering Kit

Hi Everyone,

I am between 6'0"-6'1" tall and I am always slouching when I stop at an intersection to view the traffic light.

Do you recommend a 1" or 2" seat lowering kit? Also, where do you recommend I purchase the kit (Canadian retailers are welcome)?

At 6'0"-6'1", I would do the 1" kit. You'll retain fore/aft adjustment and get the extra headroom you need.

The 2" kit bolts the seat to the floor. I had it in my Gen2 because I'm 6'4". It rocked, but nobody else could really drive my car unless they were tall.

Thanks for your post. I was torn between 1" and 2" because I wasn't sure if a 1" drop was enough for my height.

Is a lot of your height legs or long torso with shorter legs? I'm more legs and my wife is more torso (She's 5'11", I'm 6'2") and the 1 inch kit was plenty for both my Gen 2 and Gen 4 even with upright driving position and helmets on for the track.

I am 6'2" and pretty even 50/50 legs/torso. I got the 2" not realizing that when the seat mounts to floor it actually mounts forward a few inches. The base of the seat seemed to flat or with out much upward slant from front to back so it left my legs feeling as they were up in the air with no lower support.

Then Mark from Woodhouse was kind enough to send me some spacers he had made for his seat that he would not need anymore since he was going to new seats. They lifted the front seat bottom about 1.5-2 inches and it made all the difference in the world.

With out these gadgets I probably would have gone to the 1" kit but now I fit perfect and shorter leg folks can drive my 04 by using the pedal adjustments.

No more craning down for stop lights that is for sure.

I'm 6'2" with long torso and short legs (32" inseam) and therefore love the 2" drop. I sat in Fireball's ACR with a 1" drop and liked the 2" better.

But like I said I have short legs for my height.

BTW got mine with great service from Jon B at PartsRack, and he creatively estimated the value for duty at the border if I remember correctly.

I am 5'11" but have a 31" inseam so I sit tall. The low view bugged me at intersections so I built my own seat lowering kit of an inch. I wrote an Illustrated Upgrade (with pics) and also described how to lower your seat another 3/4" by removing the nut spacers on the seat bottom.

I'm fine now and helmet's are OK. Most taller drivers remove the sun visor as that will give you an extra 1/2-3/4".

If you look at the stock seat track long enough I think you will find the answers to all your seat lowering woes. All I am willing to say.

In my car I used the 2" kit and installed the front brackets on the seat in the next set of forward mounting holes. Then I fabricated brackets to move the rear studs back 1.75" this got me as low and as far back as possible...

The brackets were basically flat iron that I bolted to stock studs and welded new studs to 1.75" back.

I have a 1" seat lowering kit I bought, installed, and then removed from my '03 because I did not like the way it was built. I have other threads about it. I bought it through Partsrack. It took me so long to finally install it and put up with it in the car that returning it isn't an option.

I thought the Gen IV's could not be lowered due to the impact sensors located beneath the seat? Did you have to relocate them?

It was pretty straightforward - I just mounted the sensor underneath the bracket that's located on the floor under the seat. I heard all kinds of things about why I should and shouldn't do it, and after doing some research, I convinced myself that the airbags should work just fine. I haven't tested the theory, though

I'm 6 ft with 32" inseam, the 1" kit fits perfect for me.
Before I had to bend down to see the traffic light and my helmet would hit the Vert's top when up.

Well I did both, lol. I'm 6'3" with equal distribution and 200lbs.

I did the 2" and found that the placement of the seat forward was an issue, I tried spacers etc., but my knees were interferring with the steering wheel no matter what I did & couldn't get my legs to feel right. I got the 1" and it's been money, I was surprised 1" makes such a difference, but I'm quite comfy now, for performance driving & highway cruising.

If anyone wants a 2" kit, I have it in the box just sitting there taking up space.

Little side note on the seat lowering kits is that they also make seeing out of the rear window easier. The angle gets better for using the center mirror.

I have lowered mine one inch, 6'0", and find not is the seat more comfortable to me, but I no longer look out the top couple inches of the windshield, where the distortion is the greatest.

Looking for through the center of the windshield is much better for me.

In addition I removed my Visors and put in a "ViperClub" windshield banner so the sun is no longer an issue.

Have the 1" in my '09 and the 2" in the '05.....GET THE 2 " and use a spacer or some washers to lift the front up just a bit.

Will be sending the '09 back to The Wizard to replace the 1" with a 2"

Use 2 " especially if you planb on racing/tracking the car

Sorry..more...the 2" feels much more sturdy than the 1".....the 1" you can feel the seat actually rock a little back and forth!!

Do you feel that in the 09 or 05 or both? Mine feels rock solid. I think your advice is great, if the persons legs can accomodate it, I sure tried every combo of spacers etc & just couldn't get a 2" kit to work with my legs, and I'm built more like a gorilla than a flamingo ... 6'4" and everything is equally long, except my knuckles drag the ground from my freakishly long arms. lol
