Im stuck trying to figure out what I should do and you people can usually shed some light on what one should do.

I have a 01 GTS - Pretty good shape 15,000 miles with basic breathe-better mods. I want to start getting some serious HP but its a cast car. Reliability is key in any mod I do. Should I sell and get an old forged car and mod it or should I keep this one and have new internals put in. I want a good 600+ HP driveable car with no NO2. I was going to put heads on this car but people are all doing forced induction and if I do that I probably want an engine that will not buckle under the additional HP.

I know its a silly question but I am really having problems. Pretty sad when your lifes problems include indecisiveness of how to mod your Viper. I feel guilty already.

Thanks!

IMO, if you buy a 98 or below, you'll save money if you sell your '01. But it comes down to if you are willing to spend the money in your car, instead of saving it. I guess it depends on how attached you are to your car, and how much you like ABS.

The market is not easy to sell a Viper GTS right now. I think you'll end up not getting what you want for your car and losing money on the sale of your car. Instead, I would just keep your current car and install forged pistons. Plus, you won't be able to get that color in a 99 or below forged piston car! :)

In addition, you can bring your compression down with new pistons to accomodate the boost more effeciently.

Check with Jason Heffner (410-766-2800) on the cost of installing forged pistons as he has done this numerous times for customers.

Good luck! :)

No need to change the pistons if all you want is 600 HP. I good head/cam/T&D car should net you 620-650 HP.

for now. . . although I see, in the fog, a supercharger in the near future. I may swap out the pistons, heads, cam then do a s/c I talked to Doug Levin but I dont think I can live without driving my car for 7 months.

I don't know how long it takes for Heffner to get his cars through, but contact him. I know him personally and he is a great guy, everyone else can vouch for his performance enhancements since I've never bought anything from him (no Viper for me). He's in Maryland, not as far away as FL. He is very similar to Levin, in the way that he can get your car to different levels that you want. I rode in one of his customer's 99 Red GTS (Mark Cooper) that had 655 HP then (571 rwhp). That thing was SCARY fast, not to mention when he got the car sideways from a standstill on purpose.

I believe the piston swap runs $5,000 from what I remember as a price quote (believe the engine may have to be pulled). I too feel the same way. The piston issue is the only thing holding me back from a s/c.

You got to love it when you are stressing out about Mods for your Viper!! :D
Ruth, you need to come to Indiana and go for a ride in my Heffner S/C'd GTS, or go see Paolo in Chicago for a ride in his! You will know what direction to go after that! :p
I don't think Jason will put a S/C setup on a 2000+ car. But I know he will give you a great price/product, and it could probably be done in a month or two at the most. If you already have headers/exhaust, you are looking at much more than 600hp on BOOST.
I guess one more question is, How important are ABS to you? Do you track much?
Oh, yeah, if you haven't heard a blown Viper, the sound alone will make the decision for you!! ;)

While the heads are off pull the pan.....bead hone....then knock in some good pistons with the engine still in the car. With 15,000 miles the wear should be ok.

Hey Sapphire, if you're near Columbus, ring me up.

I've heard a couple Heffner cars. I just need to check out and hear one of those thousand horsepower ones.
