I'm wondering if anybody installed side pipes for GTS and how it looks. Would the car get louder? I have no cats and my car is loud. How does it look?

Looks GREAT, in my humble opinion... Not sure why, but clicking on my avatar does not result in a larger picture.

On the otherhand, go to the VCA Calendar project, my car is in photos #30 and 121.

My car is only slightly more loud in the passenger compartment - I have stock cats in the side sills and a 3" bullet shaped muffler behind that.

Hey Joe, where'd you put the O2 sensors? Mine are behind the bend after the side sills. I was worried the computer might not like me moving them further upstream.

The rear O2 sensors have to get moved and wires lengthened. I have them just past the muffler and just in front of the final bend "aiming" the exhaust down and away. When it's all said and done, the sensor position moved less than 12 inches upstream.

I soldered the connections for the wire extensions and have had no problems with computer codes. FWIW, I get very "normal" behavior on the Air/Fuel readings from the gauge supplied with my VEC-1. I know it's not very precise / nor particular fast responding, but still, I take some comfort that it reads in the expected range under various loads.

Take a look at my avatar
the problem is that the clear coat started to peal off after
a week or so, and it is really to loud (inside) It hurts your
ears. But it looks really good.
If any body knows how to keep them from pealing
please let me know. Thanx Hugo

Here is a 1996 GTS w/ Gen-1 side sills painted all blue: Also Painted by Alcalde Customs. He is one heck of a painter!
Your image did not appear. I believe you are trying to show a .htm link and you can only use a photo (.jpg, .bmp. etc) with [image] and [/image]. I think you are trying to show this:

See, I don't like the sides painted the same color as the car. It's like wearing blue shoes and socks with blue jeans. I like it better when it stands out. Then again, that is just my opinion. The main reason I bought a Gen1, other than the fact I wanted to pay cash for a car, is that I really liked the side pipes. If I could get this "look" added to a Gen 2 RT/10, then I would certainly consider going with one of those.

By the way, does side exhaust sound all that different than rear exhaust? I know it's closer to your ears, but I', talking about the actual tone and sound of the exhaust? I ask because I notice on my car it is a very low and deep sound that is very loud, while on GTS's I have heard, it's more of a growl kind of sound, which I prefer. My woman even said at one point that my car sounds like a lawn mower engine with a really deep exhaust sound to it. That sucked! I have High Flow cats and Borla Exhaust.

Hey Gerald, you are the man! Tell me how you did that. Otherwise the only way for me to get that picture on here would be to quote your post!

Superbar, It all depends on the headers/cats/no cats/exhaust combo you use. The headers make for the grrowll.

It's much louder.... Just imagine it being 2 feet from your ear 100% of the time you drive your car. You get no break from the headache. All there, 100% of the time. I wouldnt' recommend it unless you only track your car or drive it now and then. The noise gets.....VERY OLD and ANNOYING..forget conversation, forget listening to quality stereo...etc

I would have to agree with Gerald on this one. It is much louder. I run the side exhaust/no cats setup with a pair of earplugs most of the time. I really like the sound and feel of the loud exhaust sampled through the ear plugs==> Not to mention the other people on the road can FEEL you coming up on them. If this is what you like it is definitely the way to go! You can also have a set of cat bypass tubes/cat system where you can run with cats or catless! It all depends on what you want. The side exhaust definitely adds 50 RWHP to the seat of the pants feel. It is also cool to be driving along where there is a cement wall on both sides, you can tune perfect stereo right and left channels by moving slightly to the left or the right. Another cool thing is to get in a tunnel and get up to 5800-6000 RPM and totally lift off the throttle this is one of my favorites! You should see people's faces exiting the tunnel after being blasted...... Priceless!

Paulo, jeez, I know my descripts of posting a pic are hard to follow, sorry. If you want, I'll come to your house and do it for you. I guess it would be easier than all my instructions that are hard to follow. Sorry about that, I'm not the best teacher. Are you available July 1st? You're driving me nuts with these posts.

Paolo, I believe I will be having 98 GTS headers added to my 1994 RT/10. Will that give it more of that growl sound?

Birvini, If my driving was on par with my computer skills, I would run a consistent 20.0 seconds and MPH in the 1/4! I am available late on the 1st, my last appointment starts at 7:00 PM.

Superbar, unless you are going to do the work yourself, I would just buy a set of headers you like the sound of and a cat-back. Someone will charge you more than what it will be worth to just swap out the casr iron jobs for the tubular shorty ones.
