Sapphire Blue is one of the more desired colors for a RT. Who told you it wasn't a hit? We have 2 coming in that we paid top dollar for because of the hugh demand for that color.

The Sapphire Blue is not that desired. Acutally it was one of those colors that just stuck around on the showroom floor. They did not sell this color as fast. I knew a few dealerships that had these new still on their showroom floor. I still know of two dealers that have them sitting on their showroom floor new.

Saphire Blue ACR with stripes! That combo is awesome! I would have a hard time believing that was not a well received color combo!?!

All the other colors sell out a lot faster but not Sapphire Blue. I was able to get my car new this past March. That is almost two years later after it was made. I have spoken to several dealers and they all tell me the same thing. Even Buhler, the second largest Viper dealer told me that this color did not hit off very well. Do not get me wrong, I love the color but it jsut did not work for dodge.

You know what I think about the color....BEAUTIFUL! Where did you hear they weren't popular? There were only 120 made with the Connely leather and 132 with black leather. That's why you rarely see one.

I'd take a Sapphire in a heart beat, that color is so nice and rich. And if it was a GTS/ACR with stripes. I'd probably take it so quick I'd forget to pay for it. Sapphire is in my top color choices for a Viper, along with black/silver, '00 grey/silver, and emerald.

What made you spark this thread, was it because sapphire was a one-year-only color?

Alex,

For a $100, I'll take Cars that look better in the 96-96 Paint scheme.

Another thought....when I went to buy one, I was set on red. After looking at the two side-by-side at Woodhouse I decided that even though the red catches your eye on the road, the Sapphire was more "Classy" looking. Being married and 42 years old...I figured I didn't need the red to attract attention of young girls or the cops! Re-sale value will be much better with the Sapphire.

Re: So Why Didn\'t The Deep Sapphire Blue Color For 2001 Hit Off Very Well???

There were 1,751 Vipers produced in '01. 545 were of sapphire color (includes all RT/10s, GTSs, ACRs). 252 RT/10s produced. 216 GTSs, 86 of those with stripes. For ACRs, 28 without stripes and 49 with stripes, total 77 produced.

To compare (stats up to '01, '99 color-specific Viper RT/10 and GTS numbers excluded):

From '97 to '01, there were 2,455 Red Vipers produced (with and without stripes). 836 RT/10s, 1,463 (only 91 with stripes), 156 '99-'01 ACRs (68 with stripes).

In '00, a total of 840 RT/10s, 731 GTSs, and 218 ACRs were made, with a grand total of 1,789 Vipers in '00. 289 black RT/10s. 273 GTSs (94 with stripes). 73 ACRs (34 with stripes).
In '99, 98 total black ACRs were made, 45 of those had stripes.

Look how the '00 Black/Silver ACRs in one year had half the numbers of the Red/Silver ACRs in three years.

'00 ACR numbers are similar to '01 ACR numbers with total production.

Re: So Why Didn\'t The Deep Sapphire Blue Color For 2001 Hit Off Very Well???

It's funny this topic came up....

I own a 1997 GTS which USE to be red, it's now SAPPHIRE. Why change my color? Because it looks WAY better and also because I CAN! I don't plan on parting with my car, so why not do what I want to it! It's cheaper then buying a 2001, partly because I know the owner of my body shop. My sapphire is the exact paint code that DC uses, but the paint job is only a few months old, better then new! On a side note, I also bought the 18" OEM wheels/tires to match my colors year. The only difference between my 97 and an 01 is I kept my RED viper accents along the side and back, which looks sweet (mine and others opinion).

Sapphire is the coolest color by far in any Viper year. I bet many Dodge dealerships have Vipers that haven't been titled in many colors, you just point out the sapphires.

I haven't taken any pics yet, does anyone wanna see? If so, I'll take some pics this afternoon and post back.

That's your opinion! :smirk: :p What if I said that black and silver is the best color combo than all the others combined. haha, just joking around; but my fave is black and silver

ANY Viper color looks good, it's a Viper. I agree, black/silver is sweet also, but I have a sapphire now, so now it's the best! :p

By the way, sapphire is also the fastest, I checked into it.

I am not just pointing out the Sapphires. It is a fact that this color is much harder to sell than the other colors. I do not mean to be pesamistic but it is the truth. I was told by several dealers, even the one I purchased my car from. They all tell me the same thing that the other colors go but the sapphires stay. Once again do not get me wrong, I love the color but I am just stating the facts. I purchased this color because I like it, end of story.

Sapphire blue is a great color. Mine was with the cognac interior. In addition, to being a classy color, you did not show up on the visible radar screen as with a red one. I think I got stopped seven or eight times in my red 97(no tickets  ) and never in my 2001. I have not been stopped yet in my SRT....just get looks.

Gotta love the color. I wish I had the same stories for not being stopped but it is not true. I was never stopped in the Mercedes but now with this Viper I have been stopped about 4 times in 3 months. I only got the car three months ago and they are already attacking me. Here are the stories:

Late March 2003:

No Front Plate

No Registration Sticker (Keep In Mind Car Just Arrived)

Tickets Issued

June 6th 2003:

"Hey You Mind If I Run Your Plates?"

No Ticket Issued

Mid June 2003:

The rear wheels were on loose gravel so of course the loose gravel would get picked up once I took of. Hey it is a Viper. I saw the cop prior and tried to avoid doing anything illegal but he pulls me over for the loose gravel accident. Ticket Issued.

July 2003:

Same thing but he just told me to wait there and he would be back. He also just ran the plates.

No Ticket Issued :D

I find it all pretty funny and stupid but I guess there is really nothing I can do. All I can say is that it is a huge pain.

Re: So Why Didn\'t The Deep Sapphire Blue Color For 2001 Hit Off Very Well???

F355-

My son gets the same crap all the time in his lowered Mustang Cobra, with the dark tinted windows. Cops look at him like he is some kind of criminal. One time, I was driving his car, (speeding), and when the CHP got out of his patrol car, he had his gun drawn, as he approached the car. This would never happen if it wasn't a black, lowered car w/tints.

In my son's case, he has that car catching the cops' eye, plus he is young like you, around your age. Put all that together, and it makes for a socially charged aura of suspicion. This suspicion is not completely unwarranted, considering that young males are statistically shown to be the cause of many car crashes, and criminal acts. Thats why insurance companies have that term "assigned risk" for young male drivers. While you may be a great guy, the powers that be just look at you like a statistic. Sometimes life kinda s*cks, until you get through the early years.

I have a guess as to why the Saffire isn't as popular. It's a very muted and subtle color. It's not a bright vivacious color that you expect from a sports car.(that's why those yellow guys think they're so much faster ;) When I first heard "saffire" I imagined a pearl or semi metallic finish but from far away it's a dark navy blue. I'm sure the exclusivity is very high and the resale will be as well but I'm just not too crazy about it. Sorry guys.

Dear Vic:

Yeah it happens to stink but I guess I have no choice but to just obey the cops. So far so good. I have not been doing anything wrong while being pulled over (knock on wood) so I have nothing to worry about. I just try to be nice to the cops and cooperate. It is the only thing I can do.

Yeah I think that this is the primary reason. Most people want the Viper it a LOUD color. More people see it LOL! I drive this everyday so I could not get a bright color. I park the car and do not need people to see it all the time. Certain reasons call for certain colors.

Gt snake has it right, when potential buyers call around or crise the internet for a car, they cannot visualize the color, they just think blue, it's really blackish blue with incredible shine to it. this is a color you LOVE once you SEE it.

F355,

I may agree with you on this one. A friend of mine manages a dodge dealer and said when the sapphire first came out they immediately ordered one thinking that this was a great color. Well, it sat at the dealership for a while until finally someone bought it (rt/10 w/ cognac). While the sapphire was at the dealer there were numerous other Vipers bought in different colors. They later recieved as a trade in the same sapphire Viper they sold a year ago and had a very hard time selling it but finally did a couple months ago. I like the color as well, just an observation from the dealer near me.
