F355, a way to combat that loose gravel ticket would have been to have a camera (everyone should have one, just a disposable, in their cars) and go back to the gravel and take pictures. This most likely would have cleared the ticket. You'd have to do it right after the officer issued the ticket because I've heard of cases where the officer calls in for a clean up of that area. Person goes back next day and there's no gravel to be seen.
Also have the camera in case of an accident. Take pics of the location and the cars.
