BFGoodrich 1/8th mile steet shootout this weekend. Much better times than a couple of weeks ago. Thanks to those who posted feedback, it obviously helped.

This was my best run. RT 0.622 60FT 1.898 MPH 92.97 ET 7.779
The average was about 7.85 to 7.90. I actually had a .507 RT that allowed me to win the 1st round. My 60's are always around 1.88's to 1.95's. Can't seem to get it lower. I am dumping the clutch at 2500. Perhaps lower or higher could change this.

I used a factor of 1.525 (from this board to calculate 1/4 mile times) and my average time for all 11 races (in the 1/8th) would be 7.9 * 1.525 = 12.04. in the 1/4 (could someone concur?).

Now this seems a little too good in my opinion, because I am not an experienced drag racer. If I take my best time at 7.779 * 1.525 = 11.86. If this is the time, then great. Sure hope this is right, it would be a BIG boost.

I REALLY do not like the car shaking off the line (you know, the dreaded hopping) so I am thinking a tire change could remedy this, what would eliminate this problem?

What a difference 20 runs can make. My first time out I ran a 13.8!!!

I would like to know what you guys/gals think?

thanks,

Very good times Michael.

I just went out for my first time a couple weeks ago and here were my times:

Run R/T 60' 1/8 mile 1/4mile MPH
1 .666 2.225 8.573 13.042 111.72
2 1.03 2.265 8.509 12.765 117.38
3 .436 2.144 8.346 12.588 118.12
4 .612 2.060 8.240 12.464 118.99
5 .794 2.068 8.259 12.466 119.22

So I'd say that you got the launch down very well, with great 60' times.

I'd say that your 7.779 run would have netted you a 11.9@118MPH run.

I'm going to try and go again next weekend. But with some more mods done this time.

Mike with your 1/8 mile times you definetly would run low low 12's and high 11's. Those times are almost identical to mine.

J Smith and Snakester, thanks for the positive feedback. Are you guys experiencing this car hop like me?

Dr. Roof, I do not understand your post; can you explain please? What do you mean break something?

I was just at the strip tonight. You probably already looked at my other post, but just in case this should make you feel good about your calculated 1/4 mile times:

With a 7.868 @ 92.55 MPH 1/8th mile I finished with a 12.056 @ 119.78.

The next run:

7.851 @ 93.11 1/8th mile finished with a 12.023 @ 118.19.

Looks like the real world pretty closely matches your calculations.

Michael,

I haven't gotten any noticable wheelhop. It's either grab or spin.

And what Dr.Roof was talking about is that bad wheelhop is one of the main reasons for halfshaft failure. The high torque of the Viper can hammer the U-joints on the halfshafts when experiencing bad wheelhop, and then they can break under the stress.

Most of the time this happens with 600HP+ Vipers, but it sometimes breaks halfshafts on the mild-modded ones as well.

I haven't experienced this yet (thankfully) but I have read about it happening to Viper owners here. :(
