Hello everyone! I have a 2003 Dodge Viper SRT-10 with just about 90,000 miles on the car. It's definately a great car and runs fantastic! But the something happened... My car will not go into 1st or 2nd gear at all. It's not that the gears are locked out so to speak. The shift just can't even get to the side of 1st and 2nd gear. It's hard to explain. Let me give you the scenario.
I was driving, and didn't notice some rail road tracks. My car bounced up and down and after that, the transmission has never been the same. Right after that, I had a hard time getting the shifter to the left side where 1st and 2nd gear. If i pulled hard enough, it would go to the left and therefore go into 1st and 2nd with no problem. People were saying it's the synchros and the tranmission because of the amount of miles. But there was no grinding nor was it hard to get it into gear. It's just getting to the left side. Eventually, it became ok and it was shifting fine again.
Then as I was driving on the beautiful freeways of LA, there was a **** I went over at about 80 mph. And I kept driving with nothing happening. But once I exited, and stopped, I couldn't even get to 1st and 2nd gear. But if I pull hard enough on the lever to the left, I can get into 2nd gear, but that's just a no no in my book. So I had to drive the car in 3rd, 0-60 mph.
Pretty much, I feel like the transmission shifted to the left. I have gone over bumps and humps like this way before, and this never happened, but for some reason, these last two seem to put my car in this position.
I was hoping someone could chime in with their 2 cents and maybe have an idea. I tried searching for it, but I couldn't even find anything. I'm awaiting my Viper tech to let me know. I know it's hard to diagnose a car over the phone let alone the internet. I guess what I'm hoping for is through the symptoms and the potential cause, another viper member might have an idea of what it could be.
Thanks in advance!!!
