Being a biker I already had big respect for the name "Ohlins". So when invited to go to Ohlins HQ in NC and set up / test, SCCA race and street cars on their shaker rig, how could I refuse! Firstly the rig has to warm up, so the car sort of does a GI-Jane work-out on the 4 wheel platforms once its all set up. Anyway, the shaker rig is capable of running any certain track lay out, or certain street set ups. For the race cars it can be set up to add in aero forces, and 3 load cells in each wheel pad pick up, and record grip, besides recording body roll, rise, squat etc. We worked 7am until past 7pm for 4 solid days, and I loved every minute of it. Awesome turned out cars, the leading WC Woodhouse Performance Comp Coupes, and a Paxton Supercharged SRT10. The Ohlins guys were happy with what graced their very expensive shaker rig. Now the street car, was already on Moton Club Sports, these were good, but having driven before and after I was impressed with what the Ohlins could achieve. The Ohlins guys had the advantage of having a car on the test rig to getting the valving within the damper and spring rate optimised. On street drive we made a couple of clicks compression adjustment to soften the ride mainly for when taking lady passengers, but otherwise the rig data set up was right on. I could not believe how nice the car drove with the new Ohlins set up, and I'm not just typing because I am some Ohlins fan, the Comp Coupe I race has Motons, these are fab I thought, until I tried the difference, and saw how the Ohlins could perform. No commission just telling how it is, and I don't race against you USA guys so no worries passing on secrets! I am going to be testing a street car set for Gen2, the street car kit will come with a set up guide sheet to aid understanding, once the real time street driving is done. Woodhouse Performance run damper pods on their race cars, and constantly collect data to set up the car for most grip at each different track, of course the dampers are just one part of the equation, spring rates, anti-roll bar settings, tire pressures...etc...all factor in. So what did we achieve, well...Woodhouse Performance just qualified pole, won the race and set a new track record at the last race of Long Beach CA, way to go, driven by Kuno (who I promise not to call Khumo again, as in the tire, LOL).

Yes, Ohlins are going to be doing Gen 1, 2, 3, 4 spring / damper package. Woodhouse Performance have been running Ohlins on the race cars for several years now. The neat thing I liked about them was no remote cansters on a line, this may not appeal to all, as there's no cool-factor of showing the cansters off, but there's no drilling and routing to fit them somewhere either.
