Has anyone attempted to do this conversion on their gen3/4 viper? Any sound clips?

Belanger headers has worked on this possibility and it is VERY HARD to do. Plus you would need a custom rear fascia fabricated to accommodate the arrangement. Lou may have some insight but I do know it would be very costly and not have any performance gain over what you currently have.

I put a semi rear exhaust on mine. It dumps after the rear of the lower control arm toward the ground.

Yea, I've seen pics and even video of a rear exit SRT that was in Euro somewhere. Sorry I didn't save that link. I do remember it wasn't done great on the sides, and the rear reminded me of my RT/10.

Having had a RT/10 with the belanger setup out the rear, and the SRT with a track back Corsa (which is as load as I can take it due to the side exists) I'd functionally prefer the rear exit, my RT/10 sounded soooooo good & didn't cause me to go deaf in my left ear.

all they did was put blanking covers over the holes in the sills, it looked quite tacky, luckily there isnt many of them about

PM your e-mail addresses and I'll send you the rear exit exhaust pics. I saved the pics them when I found them. I thought I'd have to make that conversion when I brought mine over... I believe Prodrive are the chaps to contact. I am under the impression that they performed the conversions; I recently found their development mule engine up for sale. They made 520hp on European fuel.

The Euro SRT-10s also have side indicators behind the front wheels on the side skirt, squirters for the headlights and nasty, nasty rear fog lights... :(

I was told long ago that the Gen 2 Vipers had rear exiting exhausts in order to facilitate European sales... Dunno if that's a fact though.

prodrive had no need to convert to a rear exhaust for the UK market as side exhausts are legal here, I think its Germany where new vehicles sold through the Chrysler network had to have rear exhausts. But i dont think that rule applies to imported cars

Looks pretty cool. I wonder how it changes the sound of the car. I agree, they could have done a little better job with the side exit holes from the factory. Maybe they could be used for rear brake cooling ducts?:hmmm:

wow so it is possible. My plan would be to have the rear pipes turn down somewhere in the back and not exit and also keep the side pipes "looking" functional. Im just doing this to get the sound of an earlie Gen2 out of a gen3/4.

I don't know about functional wise but it looks terrible as shown. Maybe if something was done much better with the side ports.

Rear exit would give better sound and less interior heat for the same power but doesn't look as good as the side; I think you could get more power this way because the sound volume would be more forgiving with a rear exit.

to make the gen3/4 sound like a viper should. Have you heard a 96-99 gen two with exhaust at ide/acceleration. The car sounds like a true hot rod. Heres a little clip of me fn around. Listen do the sound of heaven.......

What you do is run the pipes back, leave the side exhaust "looking" functional and dump the rear pipes so you dont have the ugly tips.
