On my home from Heffner's yesterday a new headache emerged. For some reason the throttle is stuck at 3,000rpm and won't go down even when engine braked. (Which I must say, trying to inch through toll-booth traffic during a downpour was very, very interesting.) I think the clutch is fried now. The throttle does return to its normal operating range but only at random so I know nothing is (thankfuly) kinked.

By the way I got less than 10mpg on the ride home...

Anyway I can only assume the throttle cables (or boddies) are hanging up so it begs the question - how can I fix or re-lubricate the setup? What is the best stuff to use?

Also Jason confirmed one of my suspicions as well that the hinges on the hood are really tight? What should I do about them?

Thanks in advance...

Don't know what to tell you about the sticking throttle without seeing it.

But for the hinges try using some heat, maybe a flame, that should loosen them up. :D

does it come painted?

If shipping is too much I'm sure he could rig up a brake rotor to work in there or something. What model federal mogul will fit? 4 or 5 lug?

I know that the Home Depot's Hardware department sells great quality Stanley Hinges for less than $10. While you are there you can stop by and get some Behr Premium in Red to have them "coated" with. Maybe some homeless drunk will think they are powdercoated

WD-40 for the throttle body mechanicals (perhaps after using some carb and throttle body cleaner on the mechanisims). Use a graphite based lube on the cables to make sure they are freed up. You may want to consider cleaning the butterflys in the throats as well to make sure that all is clean and freed up.

What ceieio said, but make sure it is a mechanical problem. If the parts are all moving as they should, the computer may need to be reset(disconnect the pcm for about 10 minutes). I have heard of engines that would "hang", like sit at a high RPM for a while. So figure out if it is mechanical or not. Good luck Bonk.
