Strange Air Conditioning Problem

When I bought the car the air was warm and the dealer stated he fixed the air conditioning. It still blows cold. Great.

Here is the strange problem. I was going down the highway and punched it and the air conditioning and fan shut off entirely. Once I let off the gas pedal it came right back on and blew cold. I could not believe it so I did it again and it happened again!

Has anyone heard of this? Does anyone have any idea what the heck is going on (other than I bought a weird car)? :omg:

not sure if im on the same page as you,put a certain high level of rpm it will cut offthe a/c to protect it,as far as the blower, dont know that one, maybe a loose connection moving with the motor when you hammer it.

it is not a problem, the a/c sys is shut off/bypassed on WOT, it is designed that way. figuring that if you are at WOT you want all the power you have available from the engine. when normal operating when rps returns so does the a/c. completely normal

Actually the system is vacuum based and at WOT there is no vacuum to hold the actuator in that position so it shuts down to the default setting of warm.

Dave:

The fan is still running but the vaccum operated door close at WOT and no more airflow.
I copied below an old post that i did on this subject:
Luc 00GTS

lot of mis-informations in this thread:

1/ the fan doesn't stop blowing (hot or cold) at WOT.

2/ The A/C clutch dis-engage at WOT.

3/ The A/C clutch is not responsible for hot air at WOT.

4/ The problem is vacuum related(lack of it) at WOT.

The reason:

At WOT, the engine vaccum get very low and all the valves/doors in the heater/A/C system are vaccum operated and the door controling the cold (A/c) air simply close.
result being a lack of cold, forced air through the vents.

The Solution(s)

1/ a one way check-valve on the A/C heater vaccum line coming from the engine at the side of the valve cover on the passenger side.

2/A combination vaccum reservoir/check-valve (part# 53003408,less than $15) on the same line.

But wouldn't the fan stay running? What is shutting the fan off?

OK... Got it. I've personally never experienced that, not that I don't use the AC here in :tx:, but at WOT my car is so loud plus I'm paying attention to other stuff (like hauling ass) that my I might even miss that phenomena.
