Being hours away from getting a New GTS, I hope you guys can tell me why you got stripes or not on your Viper?

One more thing, why do you go with a RT/10 over a GTS or visa versa?

Thanking you in advance for your thoughts.

I feel if your getting a Viper, you want it to look as retro sporty as possible. That's why I like the GTS and would not buy one with out stripes. In my opinion the stripes make the car.
But everyone is differant and many people would not buy a Viper with stripes. When people see my Viper coming (or hear it) they
know it's a Viper. (except one guy who thought it was a Shelby
Cobra

)
I am realy wrestling with the idea of a Gen III as they only will come in the SRT/10 version. To me the Viper represents a raw, crude, and loud sports car.

I hope that helps,

I too think the stripes make a GTS. I also think that sidepipes make an RT. However, despite the horsepower increase with stripes, the added weight of extra paint negates any added performance potential.

I agree, but would add that on my car the quality of the (painted) stripes exceeds that of the factory paint. Chris Barone of East Coast Performance did an absolutely fantastic job. I am routinely complimented on how beautiful the stripes are.

Fallbrook would be a good RT/10 stomping ground, but up here in Portland, a GTS is the only way to go if you don't want to garage it most of the time (mine is a daily driver). GTS is also better for sheer performance if that is your goal due to improved chassis stiffness and aerodynamics, but unless you plan on racing the thing, I wouldn't weight that in my decision. I personally like the aggressive lines of a GTS better.

I bought a yellow with no stripes about a month ago. I have been contemplating the stripe question myself and I have convinced myself that at least the yellow looks better without stripes IMHO.... That and being already saddled with the title 'Creampuff', I don't really want to be saddled with 'Creampuff Bumblebee'.

Stripes depend on whom you are trying to appeal to.Adults prefer a clean unclutered look with a **** shape. No stripes on a GTS.(A stronger and more practial car if a Viper can be practical).Children and pre-teens prefer stripes on their **** shaped (gts) car.A striped car can be striking to view close up but tends to make the car appear very narrow when viewed as a whole. Interesting perspective, Bruce, considering the GTS was first ONLY available with stripes... I am pretty sure Dodge was not target marketing a $70K car to the Backstreet Boys crowd....

Its always going to be a matter of personal preference. I have certain colors that I prefer with stripes and certain ones I prefer without stripes. And then, I only may like certain color stripes on certain colored cars....

Bottom line, do what makes you happy. Appeal to YOUR senses, that way, everytime you look at the car, you'll smile a little bit wider.

Hmmm,
I guess there are ALOT of teenage and children viper owners on this board and throughout the world.

Now, where did my G.I. Joe action figures go!?

I like strips also! Mine is silver with blue strips.
If I were to buy a second GTS it would be solid red, Then add white strips. I think yellow with white would look great also!
Steel grey RT/10 looks good with out strips. And of course
red RT/10's are cool.
Listen to us ! Just having a Viper is cool!
Just stay away from the jail strips!

I have a Red GTS and stripes were a big question for me.

At first, I was outraged that the factory stripes were Silver and not WHITE!

...but I had to admit the silver stripes look good.

In general, I think:

No Stripes = Sports Car (or GT), and
Stripes = Race Car

So which do you want?

As far as color, I think the GTS is best in Red. Why? Because Red is the color of Ferraris (GTO) (and yes white stripes are good there too) and Cobras.

A close 2nd is the Blue/White which is Daytona Cobra.

...and I'd like to see some of those shadow flames - I've only heard about them.

I think my car looks much better with the stripes
than before, much more aggressive. Probably 3-4 miles
per hour faster just sitting there !

Stripes make Vipers stand out even more. That can be good and bad. The stripes leave no doubt what kind of car is coming your way.

To me stripes are as relevant as fake wire wheels or a fake convertible top tacked onto a lincoln town car.I'm not too fond of the gas cap cover either.I would prefer that the cap cover and stripes were more than a doo-dad.This is a knowledgable group of enthusiasts. If its stripes you like then its stripes you like.So do any of you know why a stripe was placed on the racecars of yeasteryear and where it was located?I'll give you a hint. Not the way they are located on a Viper. I gotta chime in here, even though I am not sure anyone will read post # 31 or 32...

I totally agree its personal preference, but I also think most will agree that the car with stripes does attract more attention...I have a 96 RT/10 white with factory blue stripes, and I stumbled upon the car but couldn't be happier to have the stripes...My wife keeps saying, the stripes make the car...

Well, Vipers without stripes are beautiful, and I am not trying to put on a display, but I LOVE all the attention I get, from young and old alike...

I think the oldest Viper fan was estimated at ~ 85, whe was in the back seat of a Camry (go figure) complete with the welding glasses on, actually she looked dead to me...I moved over to the off ramp, came up beside them, and all the blue hairs looked at my car, then seemed to decide not to react after that...With a slight hesitation, the lady in the back seat with welding glasses gave me a big "thumbs up" and a big smile

I am sure they had no idea what I was driving...

As I recall, the original purpose of the "rally" stripes
was for drivers to use to line up their approach and departure
angles on a race track. No reason at all for the stripes on the
roof or tail, except for symmetry.
