I had a departure from the drag strip. I joined http://www.safemotorsports.com/ , to try the Viper at a road course. I was blown away that I can take a car that runs 10.0 and road course it. I watched the 12 hours of Sebring as a spectator, so this time I ran as a driver, running all day long at the famous Sebring track. We ran all morning long after the drivers meeting , got on the track at aprox 9:00 and ran to noon . Then took lunch and got back on the track about 1:30 until 4 and burned up 2 tanks of 93 octane on the track with no heating issues in 92 degree weather..... It was a hoot!!! Mixed it up with Vettes, Porsches, Ferraris, BMWs, Audis and 1 Saturn and 1 Neon srt, 1 SRT-10 truck.

I drove 80-100 miles to the event in the Viper and the 80-100 mile return trip. There is VERY FEW 10.0 sec drag cars that can drive around town using the A/C and can run on 93 octane pump gas and can go to the road course on my street tires...18 Kumhos. Drive to a fun competive (non professional, no points... but there was some semi profeesional drivers on the course) event and compete on pump gas.....

THE VIPER IS THREE CARS IN ONE.... daily driver( grocery geter), drag car, and a track car.

It was a great time Sunday. Thanks for coming out Ward. There were more Vipers at this event than any other car. 12 Vipers total, two SRT-10s and that doesn't include a few of the usual suspects. 12 Vipers at an open-to-any-car open track event!!! That's a lot of any one model let alone a limited production car like the Viper.

Yes, there were a number of hi-end cars. How about the F40? And the Winston Cup car. But not to scare anyone off, most were street driven rides and guys just getting a feel for running on a road course.

Sebring was a blast. It was great time and I had fun trying my new motor, tires and brakes. Ward got his drag racing fix with me down the back straight away at 150mph few times and we got to break in the new track tires. I rode with Chuck first thing in the morning with no food, only gatorade and it made me sick to my stomach all day. It was better than a disney ride.

Homestead/miami is in 3 weeks, who's all going.

Chuck, where are you going to put all the video and pictures that you had taken???

This was quoted from a spectator at the event, posted on another board, about the Dodge/Viper crew there:

"One hell of a day at Sebring for the Vipers!

2 SRTs, 1 SRT Ram, 1 SRT-4, 3 Gen1 and 6 Gen2. Everybody was driving there asses off. So much so, as a group, were told 3 times to settle down. The porsche and ferrari guys were complaining about not being able to get close enough to pass or tired of having to move to one side to be passed."

Refering to SneakyPete's post: Someone said they had Sour ***** and Spaghetti (respectively) clogging their intakes and covering their windshields, not permitting them to pass the vipers. haha. Carol's vision on a modern Cobra & Daytona Coupe sure does double and triple duty very well.

Another car that did drag race and road race very well was the first generation Camaro. Winning 10 out of 13 races in the 1968 SCCA road racing circuit (Penske cars), and Grumpy Jenkins tearing up world records in the quarter mile with the same 67-68 bodied cars... (Not the identical cars, just same year bodies). This car was also concieved by an automotive legend, Mr. DeLorean. (Not trying to hijack this thread) Just agreeing with CudaMan

Grumpy Jenkins is now building motors for Billet or Bullet Racing who regularly races and practices at Bradenton Motorsports(my regular practice 1/4 mile dragstrip), one of the homes for the V-10 Nationals. I talk to owner and their race team regularly. They are really down to earth people, but never have talk to Grumpy Jenkins. They say he will not allow anyone watch him work or allow anyone to work with him, because of the secrets of ultimate power tricks he knows. He has earned the name "Grumpy" because of his attitude.... but he is one of the best in the world in building high performance motors. The other thing that is interesting, is the owner of the race team and cars leases the 5 race engines from Grumpy and if they break he rebuilds the engines at no extra charges other than the lease agreement. They also are based out of Ohio.
