He might be alittle early on that price. Prices are coming up. My buddy just totaled his 2000 with 44k miles and insurance gave him 43k plus TT&L on settlement with no haggling. Discussions with the insurance company noted that prices would be north up to 50k with a clean low mileage car in the future.

Contrary to popular belief, the Gen II's time will come. Six figures may very well become a standard. Might be 10-15 yrs out. Just wait until parts start becoming scarce, and that may be sooner than you think..... as you start to see more and more abused cars on the road the mint cars will really begin to pull their own weight.

Cam I think you are absolutely right. When you think of it, the Gen 2s were really the last true muscle cars without heavy computers (aggressive cam, no ABS) it just feels raw. When the contrast between THAT and what we have in 10 years (mostly electric crap with no soul), these things will be like the super bird.. And oh yea, there were 1925 super birds made, so the blue and whites should be somewhere in that realm...

The car looks gorgeous in the ad and if he can get 55k for it that's great for him. When it comes to selling and marketing anything is possible.....In April of 1975 a guy named Gary Dahl marketed a pet rock! Below is the Wiki info..

The first Pet Rocks were ordinary gray stones bought at a builder's supply store. They were marketed like live pets, in custom cardboard boxes, complete with straw and breathing holes for the "animal." The fad lasted about six months, ending after a short increase in sales during the Christmas season of December 1975. Although by February 1976 they were discounted due to lower sales, Dahl sold 1.5 million Pet Rocks and became a millionaire!

If it were Saphire Blue or one of the other one year colors, graphite, Steel Gray, etc perhaps they would command slightly higher money. Especially if someone is really missing a particular model they use to have. As for the three specific colors I mentioned, I know people who have had them, sold them and re-bought the same color years down the road. I also know members looking for specific color/interior combinations.

The Gen 2's time is coming, I wonder if the Gen 1's time will come first though? That is probably a whole other topic of conversation though.

He is not that far off, it has under 10,000 miles. Super clean low mile Gen II Vipers are getting harder and harder to find. The only thing hurting him is it is red which does not have the low production numbers as some of the other colors. I think he will get close to his asking price if he is patient. He is certainly not "crazy".

I agree with Viper John, the Gen II's time is coming and I think it is sooner than we think. They are iconic cars with more street presence than any cars made even today, have very low production numbers especially when you factor in how many have been wrecked or trashed. Now is the time to buy them, it is not going to get any better, they are at rock bottom and one of the best deals out there if you want a cool performance car that you can take to a cruise night and not see 5 other guys there with the same car. JMHO.

I'm cautiously hopeful the next generation of iconic car collectors will care as much for what we all here love. Something tells me though that high-revving V6s like GTRs will be of more interest to that generation.

As long as cars like the AC Cobra are popular I am sure the Viper will also be popular. The Viper was built to be the modern day Cobra.

I know I tend to lean more towards the basic bare bones, easy to fix with brutal power and unique styling and beautiful round lines opposed to the sharp edges and more electronic crap that is needed. But then maybe I too am a dying breed. ;-)

This is exactly why they will never be the collectable car some think. There is zero interest by the fast and furious generation now in Vipers and less than zero in the coming years.
Someone has to want them to drive up values.

Who Knew that the 911's we gonna Skyrocket in price this year and the series 105 Alfa Romeo GT cars were gonna double in price.

A market is dictated by demand...When I bought my 70 Challenger in 1987..No one wanted them...They ran like tin sounded like tin and smelled like tin...I really wanted a Vette..or a GTO but couldnt afford it..But now they are all up in price and worth some good coin.
