This is what I found after some extensive research. Looks like I'll be moving up to 18" eventually.... Can't find anything reasonable for the 17"'s anymore...

I really, really like Michelin but 457 is about 100 too high. Somebody tell the French we're going through an economic crisis over here and even if we weren't 457 is way too high. At that price I'm gonna have to go with another brand.

The Kumho is the best tire for the money! Chuck, once you try them, you'll never go back. Sticky, sticky............
Chuck, PartsRack can save you about $50-$60 off a full set of tires vs those "mega wholesaler' prices..... and no tax.
Hoosiers are $314........slicks
But we also have in stock the 'impossible to find' 17" Kumhos V-700, fronts + rears.
Several websites show that tire listed, but if you try to order they have ZERO inventory and they wont be getting any more.
If someone is running on ages-old hockey pucks, they would indeed like the improvement of the 18" BFG-Force we have these avail as well......... but lap times dont reflect the grip vs PS2 or Kumho....

Sorry Jon, $50 off a set is still in the over $400 per tire category. I can't do it.
This is for the street so there is a durability factor and Michelin has everyone beat in that category for sport tires but I'm not going $400+.

BFG's might be the way to go...a couple of the folks said they get just as much life out of them as they do out of the PS...and they are sticky. When you look up the specs between the BFG's and the PS2's...they are quite similar...

I swallowed hard and bought PS2s two months ago... $450+ is what they cost these days... See my post on the "thread without a subject" if you wanna see cords on the old XGTs... Lesson learned!!

According to Tire Rack, the PS2s have a treadwear rating of 220, compared to the BFGs 300...in theory, the BFG's should wear better than the Michelins.

335/35/17...sheesh...If you want the michelins in that size you better just grab them...those obsolete tires are probably a couple years old anyway...no doubt Michelin has sold the molds by now to one of those retreaders like linglong or nankang...making the real michelins in that size a collectors item.

I just called Buywheelstoday.com for a price on Pilot Sports 335/35/17 and their price for the Pilot Sport II's is $416 each. If you want the number it is 866-747-6247.
Interesting thing is I have the invoice from January of 2007 and I paid $340 for the same tire. At that time they beat everybody's price by almost $50 a tire.

If you have a Costco membership, you can get the Michelin's for a reasonable price - at least it was 'more reasonable' than anyone else when I bought a set. Despite my fears that they wouldn't be able to install correctly on my wheels, they did a great job. Plus, balance and nitrogen fill are included with the price of the tires - it really turned out to be a decent deal, and I'm happy with it.
Another thing to keep in mind these days is tire prices are going to come down across the board soon. Somewhere around 40% of the cost of tires is petroleum material and energy related, and with oil at $34 a barrel these days, you'll probably see a BIG drop in prices by summer. The price of tires tracks the oil market in lock-step (although with a time lag), so I'll bet we see some decent deals out there soon. Add to that the manufacturers are seeing a drop in demand and I'm keeping my fingers crossed for some good deals soon.

Yeah - that's what I thought! I got my GTS re-tired about a year ago, and the out the door cost was about $1000. I looked at prices today and the 'out the door' is up at $1600 - a big increase, but still less than most places. I'm really hoping tire prices go down as much as expected - with the lower oil prices, we should see prices come down at least 20% in the next few months.

Nah, the world aint ending. I just do a little spirited driving on the street. Got slicks for the serious track stuff.

When the tires arrived and I pulled in, everyone wanted to do the job but the manager pushed the junior guys aside, rolled up his sleeves and did the mounting personally. I run HREs and was concerned, but he did a great job.
While I prefer to support site sponsors, sometimes the deals from non-intuitive sources are hard to match.
