To Sell Or Keep 03 Vs 08

I was at a show this past weekend, and there was a lady with an 04 with 3000 miles on, with the stock ZPs. She wouldn't listen....

Her and Jay Leno Makes you wonder about stuff like coolant, gear oil and O-rings...

I couldn'y have said this better myself. As I said in my first post, I can't use my Gen 3 as is: PS2s, Mopar PCM with Mopar Race exhaust, etc. Hell, I can get in trouble quick in my 425 hp SRT8! I just can't justify the cost (nor do I have the extra $$) to upgrade to a Gen 4. It's like haveing a gorgeous woman, already with a D-cup, and trading up to a DD! (Apologies to any ladies present...)

Yeah, but since I paid more than $6,000 for those "DD"s, you bet I'm gonna say they're completely better in every way than her old B-cups! And the geometry, OMG, what a difference!

After reading these posts again (including my own) my advice to the OP has changed.

If it was my car, I would put on a fresh set of Pilot Super Sports (if needed), MCS single adjustable shocks and change my rear gear to a 3:55.

Would feel like a whole nother car, and not cost much $.

Think there is still a whole lot of life and fun to be gotten out of his current car.

Also, be sure to join VCA in your area. Vipers are always more fun when you are out riding with a bunch of friends.

I had an 03 with a Paxton, Motons, Corsa, 3.55 gears and new tires. I have an 08 now. Man do I miss the 03....it was sooo much fun to drive. I say keep the 03 and mod it.

I have the tires done already. The rest is what I want to do. Just gotta decide how much is worth dumping into this car before I get the bad itch to trade up again. I hate threads like this, always makes me forget to appreciate what I already have.

Lol. Women is another story. I'm always on the hunt for something new and exciting............................ Wait, I guess it's not a different story at all.

So, ViperWally, I don't know how much you've gained from all this. KBB.com says that a 2008 Convertible with 10000 miles will retail for $67,000. A 2003 retails for $28,000 - mileage not listed. I haven't seen any 2003 selling that low but if that difference existed, you could build a rocketship 2003 for the difference. I put a 3.55 gear in my '03. Roll on acceleration is great and you feel like you have an extra 100 hp. 6th gear is useable. You'll still have this problem with a Gen 4. You will also have drive by wire which is a bit weird - at least to my tastes. Your choice is your choice. I track my car and because most of us can't use 400 hp let alone 500 or 600 and get the most out of the car, I haven't really been intimidated by an extra 100 hp. Yes, maybe that extra horsepower will go by me on a straight but in the corners I don't see a lot of difference. It really comes down to how you drive - as many folks have said. When I'm not on the track and, for most of us, whether in a Gen 1, 2 3, or 4, I really think you'll never notice the difference. But I may upgrade to a Gen 4 when all the "hotshoes" trade in their Gen 4's for Gen 5's and the price goes down. Right now, I've got my car set up the way I like it and that makes me happy. If you can be happy with a stock Gen 4 and don't mind spending the extra $$$, go for it. Either way, you'll still be in a Viper and that's really what it is all about.

Thanks everyone. here seems more informative than viperally, they seem to cut your head off for asking questions which im not used to. Thanks again for your thoughts on this matter. I guess Im going to drive her unless I can sell her then decide what Im going to do. I was looking at the Gen IV due to the increased hp and just drive it that way until I get the mod bug. I had an 03 cobra that was freaky fast, sold it to get my first Viper. I love the cars, and did find out that all the corvette people were wrong when they said they drive like crap, I actually love the looks, the way it drives and everything about the car. If I sell my 03 great if I dont great. All in all I think I will always have a Viper in my stable due to the pure sexiness of the car.
