Too early for winter mods?

Started pulling pieces off the car again. Yes, I know, red valve covers but try to ignore those. (Waiting on them to be sent back, the guy has been out of town for a while, it's ok because I knew he would be). Got the headers and plug wires installed. Didn't finish the exhaust because I need some welding to be done so I have to order V band flanges to go on the corsa side. Enjoy

No yellow wires. I wanted to but my valve covers will eventually be yellow and I probably will have a JMB intake system soon so there will be more then enough yellow under the hood. Don't want it to be gaudy.

Yep, everything was included. The turnout was suppose to make it all the way to the corsa but that was miscommunication. M&M headers. Melt in your car, not in your hand.

1 Vote to BAN for using the "W" word. Yes, it is too early to be talking about winter mods. Still hoping for 1 more month of driving here in Iowa before the winter hibernation begins.

Nah no heat shields. Have spoke to may folks who run the same and similar headers with no heat shields for years and have had no problems.

Oh and sorry we don't have a hard winter here so I drive my car all year long.

Exhaust finished today. So far no issues with it, just letting all the crap on it smoke off. Sounds great in my opinion, definitely a deeper tone at idle. One thing I noticed is on the passenger side I could hear a rattle in the exhaust and when I traced it back it seemed to be coming from the passenger side of the vehicle. Car runs fine, feels like it revs faster, but that periodic rattle was there. Might be normal, might not. It's not very loud but I think because of the metal of the headers it sounds tinny.

Is the header hitting the frame causing the rattling? I put Gen 2 tubular headers on my Gen 1 and it gets close enough to rattle, depending on your motor mounts.

It is a good possibility but due to weather I don't want to open the garage door. It is a periodic rattle though and I never heard before. I glanced around the header while the car was idling but didn't give it an in depth look. I still have stock mounts.

Ok on the passenger side motor mount there is a thin aluminum colored piece of metal that touches the header. Found that and I believe that is the rattle. Will bend that piece slightly when it cools down.

I noticed on startup that cylinder 10 tube turned red as it was warming up. Talked to Roe, said all of them should turn red and probably only noticed that one because it is dark in that corner of the car. I will be doing 1 more fully cold to fully warm run of the car to finish cooking in the high temp paint on the welds for the turnouts then shes going back together.

Did my final burn in on the exhaust. Sean was right, they all turned red and stayed that way. Gave me a new love for the car, it is definitely the coolest sight to see glowing red headers under the hood at idle.

Man I love this car!

Drove today. Definitely noticed the braking was not as grabby as before, probably due to the headers with no wrap on them. Car runs good though and I have even less decel popping.

i wonder if my headers glow like that now. id have to peel back a heat shield to see...might have to try it now

Idle your car and check it out. Mine are made of mild steel so they glow. The stainless ones don't glow apparently. Can't wait to see them on a dyno!
